Reviews - What do customers think about The War With Babylon?
It is a book review - why would it need a title? Feb 27, 2005
Over 500 pages of Bible study on spiritual warfare. I couldn't believe it when I saw how thick James' book was. I must admit it took some courage to dive into it, it sat on my shelf for some while, (although Christmas and another book did intervene), my reading material would normally have been much 'lighter'!
But I am really glad that I read this work. Far from being the horrendously heavy study I was expecting, it has been a really interesting read. It is a very systematic unravelling of all the confusions that surround so many of the ways we approach our 'Christian' lives, and brings a simplicity and clarity to many of those 'obscure' Bible references that we often skip over in favour of the 'easier to understand' verses.
I doubt James intended this book for a wide market, or to make his fortune with a best-seller. The people who will benefit from reading this are going to be those that are honestly and wholeheartedly seeking for a deeper effective prayer life to see the Kingdom of Jesus built.
There are no concessions made at all to those who want to compromise or sit on the fence. As he says in the book 'We are at war'. It is no good pretending we can be like Neville Chamberlain trying to broker a deal with Hitler. That didn't work, and it is certainly made very clear in the book that there isn't the luxury of negotiation in this war either.
Overall, I really liked it, and have felt very encouraged by the clarity, and unapologetic nature of the work. So why only 4 stars? Well it wouldn't be me if I agreed with James on everything he said. Some of the statements were based on assumptions I wouldn't be confortable making myself. But then again, there are a lot of things in there that will be very useful and it would have taken me ages to find them out for myself! So thank you James for doing all that leg work for us.
