Item description for Fade to Pale by James Cheetham...

Some children are forced to grow up quickly, while others aren't meant to grow up at all. Little Rita existed between these two spectrums, wandering between reality and dreams, suffering and surviving in the Here and There. Some people go over the edge with courage or blind faith, while others wade along the shoreline contemplating what might lay beyond the falls. Rita found the edge and clenched the rocks. There, she lingered as a child in the cold water while hanging on for dear life. There, with broken fingernails and white, waterlogged skin, she remained until she became an adult. All that she needed by then was a nudge. Her past haunting her every waking moment, her present confusing her troubled mind, she wonders about the future. Fate awaits, but what if destiny is deceived? The universe changes and lives spin out of control. Rita lives one such life and carries her sins close to her heart. A weed amongst the flowers.

Chilling!  Jun 8, 2008
Fade To Pale by James Cheetham

Doomed to insanity at such an early age, 7 year old Rita drifts between two worlds. Her dream world, her sanctuary at the beach in her mind as she sleeps, and in the minimal hours that she is actually awake, she faces reality. While her dream world works to alleviate the dreadful days, it begins to turn scary and not a fun place to go...but still Rita sees it as her only solace from the everyday world.

A mother that abused her in alcoholic stupors and never told her the truth of her father along with other secrets she beheld as Rita grew up, institutionalized for the illness of the mind, Rita's mother was no saint. But Rita found herself following the same path as her mother had before...committed to a hospital, dependant on little blue and orange pills, and losing her family.

Rita's "friend" Emily fills Rita's mind with the darkness that could only rot and decay any sense of normalcy she had. Suffering as a child of abuse, neglect and sexual abuse, the friend Rita always turns to, is really not much of a friend at all. She wants to break away from the hold Emily, the menacing beach, and the pills have on her...but is that her fate?

James Cheetham's Fade to Pale is a dark horror story with plot twists and wicked turns that you don't see coming. A peak into the life of a woman that literally goes insane before your eyes; you will be left feeling cold just like she must have felt. This book is a chiller, a thriller and everything in between! Cheetham knows how to make you fear the dark side of life. 5 Hearts

Fade to Pale  Oct 3, 2007
Fade to Pale explores the workings of the human mind. Rita is plagued by her past and tries to come to terms with her actions and how they have affected the lives of others. Hooked on prescription drugs, every day is a battle. As her past is revealed, we, as a reader, realise exactly why she behaves the way she does. I felt much empathy for her--especially because her childhood friend, Emily, dogs her every step. But are Emily's intentions honourable, or she is actually tormenting Rita on purpose?

Find out for yourself. A book well worth buying, Fade to Pale will stay with you long after you've finished the last page. Haunting, frightening in some aspects, and so very memorable, Fade to Pale is a keeper.
