Reviews - What do customers think about 1000 Keyboard Tips. Englische Ausgabe.?
Gregory's Review Is True and False Apr 9, 2008
Gregory, I am one of the authors of the book you reviewed. Thank you for pointing out some mistakes. Though we proof-read our work diligently some 20 years ago when the book was translated - I'm sure there are still mistakes in it.
You are right and wrong at the same time!
I'm afraid you are wrong, because all diagrams on this page are correct to the dot.
You are right, because there is something wrong on page 22, but it is not what you meant. Instead of abcdefg the white keys of our diagrams on this page (as far as I can see only on this page) are named ahcdefg. Why is one key named incorrectly? Please let me explain.
The book was written in German. The German letters for the white keys are not abcdefg but ahcdefg. Why h? Because many centuries ago some scribe didn't close the lower part of the b, making it look like an h. Others copied that mistake and so Germans are stuck with this stupidly irregular musical alphabet". So the guys who transferred our book into English simply forgot to change the name of the white key under c from h into b.
I will notify the publisher, and I do hope he will correct that minor mistake. In the meantime nobody will play a wrong chord here because - like I said - all dots are at the right spot.
Should you need help with our book, please don't hesitate to drop me a line: firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your support.
Promising but the proofreader should be demoted Sep 21, 2004
I've had the book for just over a week. I believe it will be of great help to me, someone without classical training who wants to be able to play pop music relatively well in a short period of time.
Unfortunately, some of the errors in the book are quite glaring. The book uses diagrams to illustrate which keys to press on the keyboard. Within the first 23 pages, I have already come across 2 areas where the diagrams are incorrect. In the one instance on page 22, two thirds of the 24 diagrams are wrong!
I have found no place on the internet to get corrections and I have seen no evidence of a revision of the book. Without these, some sections of the book will be less than useful.
That said though, I still hope to gain much from this book and will continue to work my way through it as best I can. I am optimistically curious as to how well I'll play in a year's time.
