More About Gladys Rosa-Mendoza & Jackie Snider
The principal author of the English/Spanish Foundations Series is Gladys Rosa-Mendoza. Gladys was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. As she grew up, she moved to different places for her father's work, including Puerto Rico, the Canal Zone (Panama), and Savannah, Georgia. From a very young age, she was exposed to English and Spanish language, and experienced the many benefits of early bilingual education.
Gladys attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and has spent her career creating award-winning books for students of all ages. She now lives in suburban Chicago with her husband and two (bilingual) children. When her children were in preschool, she found it hard to find good quality books in English and Spanish to teach her children both languages at once, and she was inspired to create the English/Spanish Foundations Series.
The series has won 3 Latino Literacy Awards, the Benjamin Franklin Award, Book and Media award, and 7 Writer's Digest Certificate of Merit Awards.
Gladys Rosa-Mendoza currently resides in Wheaton Wheaton Wheaton Whea.

From a Spanish teacher, GREAT supplement to any Spanish curriculum Sep 16, 2008
As a Spanish teacher, I'm always looking for products to add to class, and to offer to my students and families for more practice at home. This little book is great for toddlers all the way up to 10 year olds because it has full sentences, not just one word at a time.
Of course there's no phonetic spelling, so if you're iffy on pronunciation, you need to get a foundation first, or something with a CD to begin. There are a couple of grammatical errors in this book (conocer a mi familia leaves out the a) so that's why I only give four stars.
All in all, a brightly colored, sweet little book with good vocabulary practice for both Spanish and English learners.
This book is adorable. It is great for children who speak Spanish or English!
excellent Jan 15, 2007
This is a great book for the beginner child. very short and easy read. i highly recommend
Great series for all levels! Jan 11, 2007
I am bilingual and am raising my son bilingual, too. This is an excellent book and series with adorable pictures, and each page has both english and spanish on it. The back includes pronunciation guides for all the vocabulary (both for english and spanish) which is helpful for my husband, a non-native speaker. It's very hard to find quality bilingual books- I've looked around a lot and loved these so much I have even given them as gifts to friends who want to introduce their kids (and themselves) to the language.
GREAT book for early Spanish learning Jul 4, 2006
Normally I would say that my daughter is a little old for this type of book. At 5 she is a bit beyond little board books without many words. But for laying a foundation for Spanish, this book is just what both she & I need. The simple sentences allow us to see what exactly each word means, as well as get an intuitive grasp on the grammer, and the pronunciation guide in the back is VERY helpfull.
I know that we will quickly move beyond this book, but for now I view it as essential for our grasping Spanish. In fact, I plan on buying the other books in this series.
