Item description for Becoming Remarkably Able: Walking the Path to Talents, Interests, and Personal Growth, For Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Related Disabilities by Jackie Marquette...
Preparing youth with autism spectrum and related disorders ages 12 and older for life after high school requires new thinking and new actions from everyone so that options for our youth lead to continued personal growth and increased quality of life. Becoming Remarkably Able is a system of ongoing assessments with action steps. The model is designed for family members and professionals to guide an individual through an exploration process to identify strengths and gifts that supports emotional needs and promotes growth. The activities are based upon real-life experiences from the author s research, to include her son Trent, who has autism. Because every one has strengths, this resource is helpful for individuals who are high functioning as well as for those who have more significant disabilities. With a focus on increased capability or independence, Becoming Remarkably Able helps establish goals and pursue paths for students during transition in the quest for a true quality of life.

I have only started the book, but it seems to live up to its advertising
Remarkably Helpful Resource Jan 28, 2008
As an instructional aide in an adult transition class, so often parents ask me my opinions or suggestions on their child's options after they leave the school system. Now I have something to offer them. I would highly recommend this wonderful, well-thoughtout resource highlighting so many wonderful areas and ideas. This tool offers and opens up so many doors of opportunity. What I love best is that it concentrates so much on the individual's strengths, interests and abilities while also considering the individuals challenges. The resource guide is so full of worksheets, skills assessments, goals, actions plans, etc., that it offers a wide variety ways to map out a path for a person with ASD...from those who can be completely independent to those who can find independence through community and family supports. I also love the personal touches of Dr. Marquette as well as her son's (Trent's)colorful illustration for the cover.
