More About j vernon mcgee
Dr. John Vernon McGee, Th.D., LL.D, (June 17, 1904 – December 1, 1988) was an ordained Presbyterian minister (PCUS) who later pastored an interdenominational church, a Bible teacher, theologian, and was also a radio minister.
Dr. McGee spent more than 50 years teaching the Bible on his "Thru the Bible" radio broadcast. He pastored for more than 40 years and has authored many best-selling books, including "Doctrine for Difficult Days".
He was born in Hillsboro, Texas. He graduated with his B.D. from Columbia Theological Seminary and his Th.M. and Th.D. from Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas.Dr. McGee's first church was located on a red clay hill in Midway, Georgia. He served Presbyterian churches in Decatur, Georgia; Nashville, Tennessee; and Cleburne, Texas before he moved with his wife to Pasadena, California, where he accepted a position at the Lincoln Avenue Presbyterian Church.
He moved from Pasadena to Los Angeles and became the pastor of the Church of the Open Door in 1949, where he continued as pastor until 1970. McGee also served as chairman of the Bible department at the Bible Institute of Los Angeles (a.k.a. Biola University) and as a visiting lecturer at Dallas Theological Seminary.
In 1967, he began broadcasting the Thru the Bible Radio Network program. In a systematic study of each book of the Bible, Dr. McGee took his listeners from Genesis to Revelation in a two and one-half year "Bible bus trip," as he called it. After retiring from the pastorate in January, 1970, and realizing that two and a half years was not enough time to teach the Bible, McGee completed another study of the entire Bible in a five-year period. Thru the Bible has been translated into over 100 languages and is broadcast on Trans World Radio throughout the world every weekday.
Dr. McGee continued many speaking engagements after he retired, refusing to be slowed by a bout of cancer from which he fully recovered. However, a heart problem surgically corrected in 1965 resurfaced, and he died in his sleep in 1988. After his death, the five-year program of Thru the Bible continues to air on over 400 radio stations in North America, is heard in more than 100 languages and is broadcast worldwide via radio, shortwave, and the Internet.

Reviews - What do customers think about Commentary-Thru The Bible/Revelation V1?
"Dispensational, pretribulational, and as always, doctrinally sound!" Dec 30, 2005
Let me begin by saying that Dr. McGee has been the inspiration for my book on Revelation "Dragons, Grasshoppers & Frogs". I should like to make two statements regarding that book. First, it is written for teens. Second, nothing I write will ever be as wonderful as the writings of Dr. McGee.
I have had the honor of taking the 'five year' trip through the bible several times with Dr. McGee. I know what he will say before he says it, and I find him correct about 99.9% of the time. I attended his seminary, and he is 'unofficially' the finest bible teacher I've ever had. Now, on to this book.
This book is intentionally brief. It is written for the average Joe, and is pre-millennial and pre-tribulational. Dr. McGee believes in a Rapture of the believers and a literal Kingdom coming to the earth. I agree with him.
If you would like to go into a bit more depth, I would suggest writing the Thru the Bible organization and purchasing Dr. McGee's study series on Revelation. It offers more insight. For the ultimate purchase, get this study series of tapes which are the most exhaustive tape set on Revelation ever produced.
If you are new to Revelation, this brief guide will get your foot in the door. The one thing you can count on in everything Dr. McGee writes is that it will be doctrinally sound. His love and reverence for the Word of God takes first place in everything he teaches.
God grant that my meager writing attempts will come close to bringing the blessing to others Dr. McGee has brought to me.

Great book by a great man Feb 11, 2003
What a great Bible teacher. If you like McGee, let me make another suggestion. If you want to understand prophecy (specifically the Premillennial/Pretribulational model) within the context and flow of the Bible, I suggest you check out the book "The History of the Future: A Commentary on Revelation and Matthew 24" by Marvin Blackburn, Timothy D. Blackburn. This is an excellent book for the beginner and more advanced student.
