Reviews - What do customers think about The Grand Sweep: 365 Days from Genesis Through Revelation : A Bible Study for Individuals and Groups?
Wonderful format Oct 24, 2007
Some other books that help us walk through the Bible are overwhelming, or in a format that is less thought provoking. I find this to be a easy-to- come-back-to format without feeling guilty you've missed a few days.
Great Bible Reading Tool Mar 8, 2007
I use this book to read the bible through in a year. I am on my fifth time and have bought several of these books to give others. It lays out an easy plan to read the bible in a year and gives a summery of each day's reading. It also sprinkles in the Psalms and Proverbs that I also enjoy instead of reading them all at once. A wonderful tool especially for those reading the bible for the first time. It especially helps you to get through the hard to read chapters.
Satisfied...or not? Feb 5, 2007
The amount of Scripture reading "assigned" for each day in the Bible Study for Individuals and Groups is doable. I have enjoyed reading the author's insights and prayers. However, I was not pleased with the Daily Response Book. The questions presented (one for each day) did little to further my study and understanding of the Scripture. Nor did they challenge me to apply it to my life, as I had hoped. We were planning on using this book as a "spring-board" for discussion in a small study group, but found it didn't really lend itself to be used as such. All in all, I could do without the Daily Response Book. But don't pass by the Bible Study book because of it!
Disappointed Feb 3, 2007
In their defense, it must be extremely challenging to come up with 365 good questions, one for each passage of the Bible, but I still think the ones in this Daily Response Book could have been a little more thought out and relevant. At least in the beginning one would hope they would use great questions to engage and hook you and get you in the routine so you would stick out the whole year. I only used the book for a couple of weeks, and it's not because I can't stick to a plan - I started a new one. Once, within the first couple of weeks, the question did not even match the scripture passage, it was either ahead or behind in Genesis. I ordered the book online without looking at it first, I would definitely recommend that folks look through the whole book to be sure it's what you want, before purchasing.
