Reviews - What do customers think about Anatomy And Physiology for Nurses?
COMPLETELY SEXIST Oct 22, 2006
READING THE PREFACE OF THIS BOOK THE AUTHOR STATES, "...the nursing student SHOULD find it possible to understand most of the terms used by doctors". Well, needless to say the rest of the preface contained completely sexist overtones as well. Moving on...
After reading that I knew that the rest of the book wouldn't be much better - and, of course, it was completely AWFUL! Every page of this book has been crudely drawn by hand (and NOT by a professional)! Even worse, DOTTED leader lines NOT SOLID lines are used in all of the diagrams which is another major detraction. FOR EX: when the "STRUCTURE OF COMPACT BONE AND ITS MICROSCOPIC ANATOMY" is discussed there are dotted leader lines coming out of the diagram(s) everywhere. Now, contrary to what the sexist author thinks - yes, I do understand the material, "even though I'm female", however, the material is presented in a completely amateurish and unprofessional manner! Any reputable publisher of A and P books uses SOLID LEADER LINES in their diagrams for a reason. As well, the histology pages are completely fuzzy in their appearance - it really is obvious that a low grade of photography materials were used in the making of this book. It looks like a layman took the histology photos and not a professional photographer - and this is the 2nd edition of this book! But mostly, I was completely appalled at the subtle overtones of sexism found in this book. There are lots of female nurses that also get their MDs as well - once they can afford medical school! Also, there are lots of women that are able to afford to become an MD right away. Apparently, since this author does not reside in North America or the UK he is unaware of what the rest of the civilized world is doing. BUYER BEWARE!!!
