Reviews - What do customers think about John Henry Newman: Selected Sermons (Classics of Western Spirituality)?
Highly recommended Feb 6, 2004
This is an excellent book. Newman's sermons are some of the best I have read. He takes the faith seriously, and his sermons showcase his erudite and eloquent style - though be warned they are dense. This edition also has a long, helpful intro essay that covers Newman's background and his main theological emphases. Highly recommended.
Wise Men Fish Here Apr 6, 2000
The man whom James Joyce considered the greatest prose stylist in the language is also the most persuasive of apologists. Christianity--and the Roman Catholic Church in particular--has received routinely bad press. Newman is its most eloquent, passionate defender.
