Spirit of Pennance Jul 2, 2000
Although Van Zeller wrote Spirit of Pennance in 1958, it is more important now than ever for Christians interested in a genuine and complete spiritual life to read and apply this great work.
Due in no small part to the catastrophic changes wrought on the Catholic Church through the Second Vatican Council, fewer and fewer Catholics practice, or even understand, the many blessings that result from this virtue.
Van Zeller describes how clergy and laity alike can incoporate small acts of pennance into their daily lives, and thus draw much closer to a true imitation on Christ.
One perspective on penance. Feb 11, 2000
Van Zeller provides helpful insight and some encouragement to those seeking deeper spirituality. However, I found this book cautiosly written. He attempts to apply a practice of Religious to the leity and tip-toes around some issues in doing so. After reading this book cover-to-cover, I found myself wanting to explore the concept of self-imposed penance further.
