Good story, quick read Feb 25, 2008
Cassie Wagner is a young mom looking forward to the birth of her second baby when she starts experiencing some weird symptoms. After several scary episodes, she finally gets a devastating diagnosis - Meniere's disease, a disease of the inner ear which will eventually leave her deaf. Cassie is stunned and angry. Her struggles to cope with her new life become the focus of the book.
I enjoyed this book and read it in about an hour. I hadn't heard anything about the author, just stumbled on the book at the library. I would recommend it to others and I wouldn't mind reading more by this same author.

Then she begins to suffer dizzy spells that cause a constant ringing in her ears. Her perfect world begins to come apart at the seams as she is compelled to deal with her own vulnerability. Journalist and author Heather Simonsen has drown loosely on a true story to write this engaging novel with fully developed characters that the reader comes to care about. Superbly written from first page to last, Sugar House Hills is a welcome and accomplished novel that will touch the heart and linger in the mind long after it is finished and set back upon the shelf.

This is Heather's second title to be published in 2004 (her first, Horseshoe Bay, available at this site, was released in June, 2004). It is a deep and moving story of a young mother coming to terms with her gradual hearing loss. Heather's incredible attention to detail, and her gripping emotional narratives, bring the characters to life. Reading Sugar House Hill, your life will be forever changed.
