Item description for Sugar House Hill by Heather Simonsen...

Cassie Wagner has everything she wants out of life: a good husband, a lovely daughter and another baby on the way. Then seemingly out of nowhere she feels the dark embrace of disease. Cassie begins to suffer dizzy spells that cause a constant ringing in her ears.

She moves forward with life, but during the birth of her son her ailment reaches a crescendo, causing her to lose consciousness in the delivery room.

What happens next shatters her perfect world and forces her to grapple with her own vulnerability. Through Cassie, we gain fascinating insight into the silent, misunderstood world of the hearing impaired. Loosely based on one woman's quiet suffering, Sugar House Hill is a novel that will linger with readers forever.

Reviews - What do customers think about Sugar House Hill?

Good story, quick read  Feb 25, 2008
Cassie Wagner is a young mom looking forward to the birth of her second baby when she starts experiencing some weird symptoms. After several scary episodes, she finally gets a devastating diagnosis - Meniere's disease, a disease of the inner ear which will eventually leave her deaf. Cassie is stunned and angry. Her struggles to cope with her new life become the focus of the book.

I enjoyed this book and read it in about an hour. I hadn't heard anything about the author, just stumbled on the book at the library. I would recommend it to others and I wouldn't mind reading more by this same author.

Superbly written from first page to last  Feb 6, 2005
Cassie Wagner is a woman married to a good husband, mother of a lovely dauther and there's another baby on the way. Cassie has everything she has ever wanted out of life. Then she begins to suffer dizzy spells that cause a constant ringing in her ears. Her perfect world begins to come apart at the seams as she is compelled to deal with her own vulnerability. Journalist and author Heather Simonsen has drown loosely on a true story to write this engaging novel with fully developed characters that the reader comes to care about. Superbly written from first page to last, Sugar House Hills is a welcome and accomplished novel that will touch the heart and linger in the mind long after it is finished and set back upon the shelf.
Another Great Read by Heather Simonsen  Nov 8, 2004
This is Heather's second title to be published in 2004 (her first, Horseshoe Bay, available at this site, was released in June, 2004). It is a deep and moving story of a young mother coming to terms with her gradual hearing loss. Heather's incredible attention to detail, and her gripping emotional narratives, bring the characters to life. Reading Sugar House Hill, your life will be forever changed.
