Reviews - What do customers think about To Save the World: The Arhka Chronicles, Volume I (Arhka Chronicles) (Arhka Chronicles)?
terrific fantasy Feb 4, 2007
On the continent Zultar on the world of Arhka war between the two humanoid races Teregians and the Vampires remains heated as it has for generations. On another large landmass Venin reside the Dragons who manipulate ITH'RYA energy magic with goals of becoming the solo supreme species and the mysterious Derus. Since their feeding has collapsed due to the near extinctions of humans, the Vampires prove necessity is the mother of invention by creating a technology that enables them to feed on humans on other orbs.
Sixteen year old high school student Stephanie Milianis and her mother Elsie move onto the estate of her late maternal grandfather. Not long afterward the two female Milianis and Stephanie's best friend Eris are accidentally yanked through the Vampiric portal to Arhka. However, as shocking as the trip proves, even more stunning toStephanie is that her mom knows this world having been here before. That disclosure turns out to be minor as her late forties mom is considered "The Power" by those strange humanoids they have met. The Teregians believe their goddess has come home to lead them to victory, but also feel Stephanie was brought here for a reason too. They need her help to win the war and prevent extinction yet the Dragons offer a different perspective of the future that splits mom and daughter.
This is a terrific fantasy tale that feels fresh because of the changing relationship between mother and daughter. The issue of trust plays out on a global stage as Stephanie struggles with the revelations about her mother that mom never mentioned to her. Thus besides the global war and the realism of the four species and their respective cultures and geography, fans will appreciate the coming of age of a tomboy who struggles with what to do as everyone seems right yet everyone seems wrong.
A sweeping saga of life-or-death struggle on global scale Nov 5, 2006
Volume One of The Arhka Chronicles, To Save The World is the story of three people from present-day Earth suddenly cast into the magical world of Arhka, where both humanoids and dragons wield a mysterious energy as raw power. A brewing war with an alien race from a distant world threatens total destruction; the ordinary people from Earth are catapulted amid catastrophic events and must decide their loyalties quickly. A sweeping saga of life-or-death struggle on global scale, written with a flair for high drama and highly recommended.
Entertaining, Imaginative Book! Nov 2, 2006
This is a highly enjoyable book. The story and the characters - no matter how alien - truly come to life in the pages of this novel. I don't read a lot of science fiction, so I wasn't sure what to expect when my friend gave me a copy. I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of imagination and story development. Overall, this is pure entertainment that I would definitely recommend!
Strange energy at work Sep 19, 2006
Reviewed by Debra Gaynor for Reader Views (8/06) "To Save the World" is the story of a world reminiscent of Earth in many ways. But unlike Earth this world's beings are dragons and humanoids. A strange energy is at work in this world that has been at war for centuries. Three strong, intelligent women are transported to this odd world. . But are they intelligent and strong enough "To Save The World"? Sixteen year old, Stephanie is a high school student dreaming of adventure. She, her mother, Elsie, and her best friend, Eris are transported to Arhka. When the first arrive a humanoid with blue skin and pointed ears, driving a jellybean shaped car almost runs over them. Soon Stephanie learns that this world is not foreign to her mother. On this strange world the different forms of humanoid are engaged in war. Zeradeus attempts to explain the war. "We were at war with the Teregians over humans. They exist on our world as they exist on yours, but their numbers have dwindled to the edge of extinction. We of the Vampire race developed a technology to open connections to other worlds, allowing us access to humans that existed elsewhere." Stephanie's mother is so much more than she ever knew. The inhabitants of Arhka refer to her as "The Power". "The Power cold impose her will on our world and manifest it in any form as many times as she wanted without suing any sort of aid, becoming a formidable and strange adversary." "Her power, and her role here, are both far greater than any esteem she could have on your world. She was revered among the Teregians as something of a goddess, and even I know Erinoch Zayr is madly in love with her." Stephanie is stunned to learn more. "A war like my mother fought on a world that wasn't her own, involved with races that drank our blood for nourishment. And now, they're asking for my help." Stephanie must decide whom to trust. The relationship between her mother and herself will be tested; will it be strong enough to with stand the test? The war does not end with this installment of the Arhka Chronicles. Stephanie has many adventures ahead of her. This book is well written and easy to read. The images are vivid and the characters come alive on the pages. The cover is beautifully done and hints at what is inside. I truly enjoyed this book. This is a unique piece of the author's imagination. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy fantasy and science fiction. I believe this fascinating plot will particularly intrigue teens. Well done Ms Hayashi.
