Item description for Truth Aflame: Theology for the Church in Renewal by Larry D. Hart...
Overview Larry Hart writes a Pentecostal/charismatic systematic theology in an easily accessible style, engaging the reader throughout the text in a personal and pastoral manner.
Publishers Description Larry Hart s Truth Aflame brings together charismatic renewal and classic evangelical faith better than anything I have read. An important contribution to the contemporary renaissance in systematic theology Timothy George Dean of Beeson Divinity School of Samford University, Executive Editor of Christianity Today As the Pentecostal/charismatic movement continues to grow, so does the need for solid theological resources for its members. While there are many volumes of systematic theology available, very few are written from a distinctly charismatic perspective. Truth Aflame seeks to meet that need. While academically sound, Truth Aflame is written with a practical, pastoral flavor. Larry Hart defines systematic theology as the process of taking what the Bible teaches and relating it to contemporary questions and knowledge. His passion for the subject is evident: he is concerned that the reader both grasps the magnificence of the study of God and allows these great truths to be transformative. This Truth, then---liberating, enlivening, and transforming Truth---becomes central to the ongoing renewal of the church that we are seeing in our day. Dr. Hart treats each of the traditional categories---revelation, God, creation, humanity, sin, Christ, salvation, the church, and last things---from a Pentecostal/charismatic perspective. He addresses other theological viewpoints but does not get bogged down in analysis and rebuttal. Further, he seeks to build bridges of understanding to those evangelicals outside the charismatic tradition. Clear, succinct, and readable, this revised and updated edition of Truth Aflame is well-suited not only for students, but for anyone desiring a greater understanding of Pentecostal/charismatic theology."

Easy reading Feb 10, 2010
I have studied under Larry Hart and recommend him both as a teacher and writer. I like the readability of this book. It is easy to understand and follow as well as is a smooth read. I have trenched through some of the larger works and find them a labor to read.
Hart is more grounded in Scripture than in philosophy or reason. You don't have to read a page of philosophical gymnastics to read a sentence of conclusion. It appears he attempts to synthesize his Baptist background with his Charismatic experience. I find it more to be a pendulum swing of one to the other. At least he is makes it clear from what position he is speaking. His sources are also well documented and annotated. I think this work is a good bridge between seminary and the pew.
Truth Aflame:Theology for the Church in Renewal Sep 9, 2009
The book is balanced and very easy to understand. I enjoyed reading it. The book has helped me to appreciate systematic theology and has helped me to understand why(Biblical) theology is essential. The pages of the book seem to come loose easily though, I believe that has to do with the binding of the book pages. The publisher might want to find another method of binding the pages together.
Great theology book that is engaging! Aug 8, 2009
I am now into my third year in Bible College and I have a number of theology books on my shelves, but this one takes the biscuit. It is a scholarly book without being written in unreadable and dry academic lingo. It is so readable that I sat down and read the first 134 pages in one sitting, word for word. Which is kind of unusual, seeing that this is not some thriller or moving novel!
What's more, it throws light on some scripture that I hadn't connected the dots with before. I am pretty sure the Holy Spirit was with the author throughout writing this book. The Divine Hand had to have played a part! It is so good I think every bible college student, pastor, cell group leader, in fact every Christian, should have one.

This book was requested on one of my son's Christmas lists. When he opened the box and found this book he was very happy to have received it. I am assuming by his reaction that he will enjoy using this book in his studies.
Great Book Mar 25, 2008
Desiring to better understand my Christian religion I purchased this book and found it better than other theology books. Dr. Hart's ability to translate complex theological issues into something that is understandable is helpful. I also enjoy how he connects modern day and historical church figures with various theological belief systems. The book is well written and would be enjoyed and benificial for those who are novices or those who are theological trained. John B
