Bravo Dr. Lerner Dec 21, 2007
I have three women's support groups and I have used Dr. Lerner's books as guidelines for our discussions - an amazing in depth understanding of the human psyche. This, as well as all her books, should be required reading by all high school classes. Maybe we could have a different outcome from our future citizens.
Very Insightful Sep 9, 2007
Harriet Lerner has great insight into human relationships and gives helpful comments as to how to interact in a positive manner with others.
the only self-help book you'll ever need Jun 20, 2007
This book is wonderful because it does not force its opinion down your throat, and uses examples of real-life people to show how we as humans can connect with one another(and how societal expectations often lead us not to connect with the people we so despearately need to).
I also love how Dr. Lerner says that it is important to separate the 'I' from the 'we.' This is one of the few books that I have absolutely nothing bad to say about it. Read through this book SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY, then put it down for a year, and then read it again, SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY.
Also, for anyone else, this makes a wonderful Christmas present. Great book to read around the fire when it's too cold to go outside or even a great book to read during the summer.
Go, no run to the bookstore and buy as many copies of this book as you can. My copy is so worn I plan to buy another one really soon. This book does more justice for dysfunctional family relationships than therapy, junk food and even Dr. Phil.
Highly recommended, especially for women with complicated relationships with their parents.
Very Satisfied Feb 20, 2007

amazing and life changing Nov 13, 2006
My therapist recommended this book to me, and that recommendation was worth the value all of my therapy sessions combined. I've learned a lot about myself and my relationships- both in my family and in romantic relationships. I am motivated to make changes in the way I relate to the world, and I owe it (at least 50%) to this book. The best part is, I sent this book to my sister and now she is gaining a better understanding of herself as well and we are trying to help each other. If all I get out of this book is a better relationship with my sister, that will be more than enough. But I know I'm getting more.
