A wonderful and original tribute to the curious, comical Dodo and the beautiful island of Mauritius. Award-winning Finnish photographer Harri Kallio creates the illusion that these fascinating creatures are alive and abundant, living as they once did in their own unspoiled haven, the island of Mauritius. Reviews - What do customers think about The Dodo and Mauritius Island: Imaginary Encounters?
An original idea beautifully constructed Jan 3, 2008
I really enjoyed this book. Although some of the photographs were clearly of fake dodos, it is such a great idea! I especially enjoyed the sections dealing with where the concept came from and how he physically made the models. I think it is worth the cost for the just for such an unusual book for your bookcase, even if it is not a favourite topic. The only bad point I could make is that it made me want to splash out on some actual prints.
Overpriced book with few actual photographs May 6, 2006
Photographs in this book come few and far between. For a $40-odd hardback, I expected page after page full of beautiful photography. What's there of the dodo is beautiful, but there's only maybe a dozen pages of good art, the rest is just text and filler.

Great vivid pictures of dodoes in their natural Mauritius habitat abound in this wonderful book, there is also great information to match!
