Item description for NRSV Go-Anywhere Bible CE (Black) by Harper Collins Publishers...
Overview The "NRSV Go-Anywhere Bible" now comes in an exciting new format for the Catholic tradition. Tall and ultrathin, this convenient yet extremely readable design features a Catholic concordance and a full color presentation page for gift-giving. Black cover.
The "New Revised Standard Version" is the "standard" translation used by mainline Protestant churches, Orthodox churches, and by many Catholics. The NRSV debuted in 1989 and is owned by the National Council of Churches, which is the leading force for ecumenical cooperation among Christians in the United States representing thirty-five denominations with forty-five million members in more than 100,000 churches across the country. They have chosen HarperCollins to be the exclusive licensor of the translation for the world (nonexclusively in the UK).
The "New Revised Standard Version" is recognized in scholarly circles as the most accurate translation into English of the original Hebrew and Greek texts. In the tradition of its predecessors, the King James Version and the Revised Standard Version, the NRSV was designed to be the "standard" version for English-speaking people across all denominations, which in many ways it has become. None of the new, more sectarian translations have approached its standards of elegance and accuracy.

Reviews - What do customers think about NRSV Go-Anywhere Bible CE (Black)?
NSRV-Go-Anywhere Bible CE (Black) Mar 22, 2009
I selected the NSRV after extensive study of Bible translations. I believe the NSRV is the most scholarly edition available and contains the best translation of the oldest texts available. I am not Catholic but I love the Apocryphal books of this Catholic edition and consider them part of a complete Bible. (This Bible is authorized by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops in the USA.) The language of the text is elegant and this is the most readable Bible I have ever known. The long and narrow design make it easy to handle and very compact to carry. The cover is attractive and I especially appreciate that it is vegetarian. There are no scripture cross-references in the text but the small concordance has already been helpful.
Beautiful and Readable! Dec 16, 2007
This Bible is just the right size for carrying about and while the paper is a bit thin, I haven't found it difficult to read. The print is rather small, but I can't say you'll need glasses to read it since without mine I can't see at all! If your vision is 20/20 (mine is with glasses on) you shouldn't have much trouble reading it, but of course every person is different. The text is the Anglicized version, which shouldn't cause any real difficulties for American readers, as the differences in usage are minimal. The Anglicized version of the NRSV is easily found in etext format online. Just Google it. I find this a marvelous Bible, well crafted and seemingly very durable. A+ on looks too!
