Item description for Galatians: A Commentary on Paul's Letter to the Churches in Galatia (Hermeneia: a Critical and Historical Commentary on the Bible) by Hans Dieter Betz...
Overview Betz exhibits a massive control of the literature on Galatians and especially of the ancient literature relevant for understanding it. He has a gently rigorous way of demolishing fanciful and unsupported exegesis of the past while still taking clear positions on controversial issues.

Reviews - What do customers think about Galatians: A Commentary on Paul's Letter to the Churches in Galatia (Hermeneia: a Critical and Historical Commentary on the Bible)?
One of the landmark commentaries in NT studies Nov 25, 2006
Betz's commentary on Galatians remains one of the finest examples of the use of classical rhetorical study to interpret the New Testament. His classification of the various parts of the letter according to ancient rhetorical conventions makes sense of Paul's logic, which can easily appear to be random to the modern eye.
His theological formulations are judicious and rarely go beyond what can easily be demonstrated from the text. The commentary is somewhat dated now, but clocking in at only 325 pages, it is something of a nice change from the massive tomes (Elliot's behemoth on 1 Peter comes to mind) that now rule the day in NT scholarship.
One of the nicer features of this commentary are the appendices - a section of one of Justin Martyr's Dialogues, the Kerygma Petrou and a brief selection from Josephus' Antiquities. They help immensely in illustrating Betz's interpretative methodology.
