Item description for Christianity in Crisis: The 21st Century by Hank Hanegraaff & E. M. Blaiklock...
Overview The award-winning author of the The Face That Demonstrates the Farce of Evolution warns believers of a dangerous trend that is ravaging the body of Christ, focusing on potentially deadly errors in the "Faith Movement". Original.
Nearly two decades ago Hank Hanegraaff's award-winning "Christianity in Crisis" alerted the world to the dangers of a cultic movement within Christianity that threatened to undermine the very foundation of biblical faith. But in the 21st century, there are new dangers-new teachers who threaten to do more damage than the last.
These are not obscure teachers that Hanegraaff unmasks. We know their names. We have seen their faces, sat in their churches, and heard them shamelessly preach and promote the false pretexts of a give-to-get gospel. They are virtual rock stars who command the attention of presidential candidates and media moguls. Through make-believe miracles, urban legends, counterfeit Christs, and twisted theological reasoning, they peddle an occult brand of metaphysics that continues to shipwreck the faith of millions around the globe:
"God cannot do anything in this earthly realm unless we give Him permission."
"Keep saying it-'I have equality with God'-talk yourself into it."
"Being poor is a sin."
"The Jews were not rejecting Jesus as Messiah; it was Jesus who was refusing to be the Messiah to the Jews "
"You create your own world the same way God creates His. He speaks, and things happen; you speak, and they happen."
"Christianity in Crisis: 21st Century" exposes darkness to light, pointing us back to a Christianity centered in Christ.
""From the Preface: ""
"Having lost the ability to think biblically, postmodern Christians are being transformed from cultural change agents and initiators into cultural conformists and imitators. Pop culture beckons, and postmodern Christians have taken the bait. As a result, the biblical model of faith has given way to an increasingly bizarre array of fads and formulas."

What is the motive behind this book? May 20, 2010
As much as i appreciate Hank Hanegraaff's thorough research, i will like to begin by asking what is the motive behind this book? If it is to correct a wrong turn in christianity, i thought it could have been done in a different way. I do agree the faith/prosperity movement have some excesses that need to be addressed. But throwing people like Benny Hinn, Copeland, and TD Jakes under the bus is a bit disturbing to me
These men may not have the theological training like that of MacArthur and others, but they are doing their best with their little knowledge and zeal. In this regard we shouldnt expect perfection per se. God is the judge of us all and he will reveal every secret of the heart of all his servants, including that of Hank Hanegraaffs. Every Servant of God will make mistakes and Hank Hanegraaff is no exception. "Dont we have sins of our own?
When King Saul Died, David entreated the people not to publish it in Ashkelon. Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Askelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, 2 Sam 1:20.
Contents of this book, though some may be true (only God knows), should not be published in Gath nor Ashkelon. We Christians like to throw stones at each other because we may not agree with another denominations emphasis. The so called exposition of truth to save the faith rather works to benefit those who continue to mock us.
Who are we to judge another man's servants? To him he rises or falls. The all powerful God doesnt need our criticisms to save the faith. The gospel of "sweets" has replaced the gospel of sweat. We shouldnt blame anyone, but let's go to God in prayer for revival of the faith in the world. This problem is not peculiar to America, but the whole world. We need a fresh baptism of fire to bring the cross back to the church.
Benny hinn, TD Jakes, Joel Osteen are all doing their best. God looks at their heart. Let's remember that they will preach in places, and reach people that the writer of this book will never reach. They are the waves that has brought many sinking victims to the shore of hope. Why dont we spend our time and effort critizing people who are spreading voodooism, idol worship etc instead of God loving people who are doing their best for the faith: "We have this vessel in earth vessels"
I will encourage us, not to look at any movement with skeptism. God is all powerful. He will save his church. I want to encourage you'll not to lose heart. Read the history of the Welsh revival and it'll tell you something about God. He always raises a standard anytime the tides of the world seem to overwhelm the church. When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Lord will lift up a standard against Him. I am waiting for the next revival in the faith. Stay on! Let's not criticize, let's pray, pray, pray for the next move of God.
May God's saving grace be poured on us again. I see a spirit of grace and supplication being poured on the nations of the world. Be blessed
Great research by "the Bible Answer Man" May 19, 2010
In Christianity in Crisis, Hank Hanegraaff offers his response to the issues surrounding the prosperity Gospel. He defends traditional orthodoxy against the new teachings of various, popular pastors and speakers such as Joyce Meyer, T.D. Jakes, and Jesse Duplantis. Hanegraaff's critics will surely accuse him of heresy hunting, as he has relatively few positive comments on these teachers. In all honesty, it could be that Hanegraaff isn't completely objective. He often offers emotional appeals and does seem to take the teachers out of context at times. However besides these slight cautions, this book is extremely well-written. Hanegraaff has obviously placed a tremendous amount of time into researching and writing this volume. It is extremely thorough in its purpose to expose the underlying fallacies of these men and women. Simply put, I have never seen a book that was this well documented and researched. The indexing and documentation are extensive. This book belongs in every pastor's study as it will offer him quick answers to the questions of wondering church-goers.
A MUST read for ALL "Christians". The MOPST important book aside the Bible. Apr 29, 2010
Today we live in a world of TV Preachers that do NOT preach the Gospel. They preach a twisted version of "Name it and Claim it", "Blab it and grab it". p[prosperity gospel that is NOT biblically sound. They are MASTERS at twisting a verse here and a verse there and making it sound like God wants us all to "Drive Rolls like...." Fred Price does. Get this book and learn where this FALSE gospel is really coming from. It is NOT from the Bible I can assure you. Hank Hanegraaff has spent MASSIVE time and resources making sure every claim he makes is backed and so that NO ONE can claim his information is wrong. These liars on TV and all around the world have lead so many people astray it is sickening.
Benny Hinn said he was "in the presence of Jesus Christ and He is saying women were not suppose to give birth the way they do. They were suppose to have children out of their sides. But due to Eve's sin women now give birth vaginally." ISN"T THAT INSANE? He claimed Jesus told him that while Benny was standing in Jesus' presence, Yet after the SHOW he then said, "Well maybe that wasn't Jesus that told me that." So, if it was not Jesus that told him that who was it and the Bible clearly tells us if a man prophecies in the name of Jesus Christ and it is not 100% accurate, that man is a LIAR and of the devil.
This is but a drop in the bucket with these people. They drive the best cars, live in mansions ALL ON YOUR MONEY. And when you do not get rich as they tell you will happen they then tell you, "It is because you do not have enough faith." If your child dies like so many have because the parents believed God would heal the child or they were told the child was healed and to not look at the "Symptoms they are just a lie from the devil." Then the person dies, they are told it was their fault because they did not have enough faith to keep the person alive or get them healed. Talk about adding insult to injury.
If you do not know the Word of God and what to look for from these new Age, Mind Science EVIL men and women than you will be sucked into it as well. Hank Hanegraaf lays it out perfectly and once you read this you will NEVER be deceived again by one of those liars. BUY IT TODAY!
INTENSE, UNAPOLOGETIC, PULLS NO PUNCHES Apr 23, 2010
For those of you who feel that God is your personal genie... for those of you who feed on prosperity pimps... for those of you who think God is your servant... for those of you who think God will give you anything you want whilst children starve half a world away... for those of you who think your success if a direct result of your righteousness - This book is for you.
Hanegraaff is concise, hard-hitting & unapologetic in his depiction of modern day Western Christianity. His arguments are shored up with scripture & research.
This is a must read for all Western Christians. Very interesting. Very well done. ...Recommended.

I purchased this book for my mother's birthday. She heard about it on the radio and decided it would be a good read. So far she seems to enjoy it.
