This book is tremendously helpful as well as inspiriational regarding how and why so many of us Americans have been overtaken with eating too much. The author presents her own story of how she got free and has remained free for 20 years. Additionally there are many examples from how others have become free also. This is not just a diet alternative, it is a life style of freedom.

this book is very scripturally sound. I read the book within two days but immediately put it into practice. I saw results extremely quick. I'm not huge but I am overweight and I noticed through this book that at times I can be a glutton. For a long time I looked for the keys to resolve my emotional eating but to no avail. One day I came upon this book and it completely changed the way I felt about emotional eating. I no longer feel out of control or weak or guilty. For instance I would eat when I was bored or when I felt sad and lately I've had many upsetting experiences come along but I haven't eatten because of them. This book taught me how to eat when I'm hungry and not eat when I'm not. It also taught me how to listen to my body and know when it's saying "thank you I'm satisfied" or "feed me please". This book simply teaches discipline and proper decision making. The bible says to be transformed by the renewing of your mind and because of this book along with the bible my mind is changing. I have fallen of the wagon two days in a row but I didn't feel condemned because it's not a diet it's just simply doing what you and your body can do. I should mention too that this book brought about so much conviction (Godly) conviction that now when I'm reading my bible I find revelation in scriptures concerning eating, discpline, good judgement and it makes it so much easier to maintain the lifestyle. Lastly I want to talk about the down side of the book. This wasn't the best read of my life because of the books flow. The author also failed to address exercising (which everyone should do at least 3 times a week), she didn't really address a method but I suppose that's the point. I would also say to load yourself with fruits, veggies, and whole grains (unsatisfaction of course) to maintain good digestion. That's about all I can think of for now except that there's one chapter where she says that you can eat anything. I completely disagree I wouldn't eliminate dinner so I could feast on a cheesecake but that's where common sense comes into play. If I were to do it all over I would have probably bought the study guide in stead. But overall I rate this book as a keeper.

I love this book. I used it over 19 years ago and lost over 30 lbs following the principles in this book. After a while I stopped eating this way and over time gained the weight back and more. I realized recently that I should go back to this book and bought another one. I was so excited the day I got it in the mail. I have lost 7 lbs and am looking forward to losing a lot more. Once I committed to eating this way it has been pretty easy. Most diets are hard for me but this is easy. I am excited about losing weight and not doing it in a drastic way that I can't continue with. I highly recommend this book. If you are considering buying go ahead and do it. This is a small price to pay to lose weight in such an easy way that you can live with. UPDATE: I have lost 11 lbs. so far. I may have lost more but haven't weighed in a while. I am not a slave to the scales anymore so I only weigh every few weeks or so. Life is so much easier now. I don't obsess over food like I used to. The weight is not coming off quickly but that is ok. I haven't even started exercising yet! Once I do I am sure the weight will come off twice as fast. Even though my progress is slow it is steady. I will take slow, steady, and permanent over quick and then gain it all back + more later on. Also, some people have talked about the problems with fasting. When I first started fasting one meal a day it was a challenge. It took a week or two for my body to get used to it. If you become miserable you can always eat a bite or two of protein. Also, if I truly eat when I am hungry I don't get hungry until 9 or 10 in the morning. I am not hungry again until maybe 3 or 4 o'clock. We eat supper at 6:00 so it isn't that big of a deal. Hunger pains only last for 20 minutes and then go away! :-)

I just wanted to give an update on my progress. I cannot, with good conscience, support Diane's program any longer. I am currently weight training, doing cardio, and eating healthy. Eating healthy is not eating whatever you want. In 12 weeks, I brought my risk factor for heart disease down from 5.9:1 (which is horrible) to around 3 (which is nonexistent risk). I did it with exercise and eating right. I also lost two sizes with just a 12 pound scale loss because I was gaining muscle, too. To be healthy, you have to work at it! Sure, you can lose weight eating whatever you want if you eat less - at least up to a point. But who wants to be a skinny fat woman or a skinny fat man?
