Last Days Eye-Opener ... Mar 21, 2007
Are we not living in the midst of spirits and powers beyond our humanity can logically rationlize? YES. After my husband and I were saved by the baptism in water and spirit, I ran across this book, which truly gave life to Ephesians 6:11-13 (KJV):
11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Was I prepared to battle the things not of this world that stood to take away everything my former worldly self worked hard for? NO. Before I was saved, I fed my mind with engineering & business degrees and materials goods, but I neglected to nourish my spirit. I did not recognize the demonic forces that placed my loved ones (and myself) in the bondages of sin. I could identify with each example of demonic spirits described in this book, because I practically witnessed them occur in my life with loved ones. And my flesh wrestled with each encounter, because my former self was fed with so much science and logical reasoning, that it almost interfered with my personal victories over these evil spirits. With that, I understand the skeptics of this book's concept. But after being saved, there is no other explanation other than Ephesians 6:11-13. This book is meant to arm you with tools to battle these spirits. But your humanity will convince you that this book is only a figment of the imagination ... Until you encounter the unexplainable in your life and all you have are your academic degrees and secular/self-help/12-step learnings. These worldly things will not bring deliverance (2 Corinthians 10:3-5, KJV):
3For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
No one can take away my testimony. That is why this book was not a surprise to my new eyes and heart. For believers, seasoned and new, read it and judge for yourself with your discerning spirit. You may reach the same conclusion.
Good foundational tool Jan 5, 2007
This was my first book on deliverance. This book (despite other reviews) had some flaws but they are minor compared to the wealth of knowledge to be gained from this great man of God!!!
Pigs in the Parlour - Thank God! Nov 15, 2006
I wish the FIRST review could be eliminated! I was one of those Christians who thought that it was not possible for a Christian to have a demon! I want to say, that it is a FACT, and Frank Hammond has given us one of the best tools for learning how to deal with them. Because of this book, and Jesus', I thank God I am totally free of rejection, fear, others, that kept me from walking a victorious Walk with Jesus. God's timing on these things is not just a one time deal.....it's a continuing process, as He give us a continuing revelation about ourselves by the Holy Spirit. Deliverance is a part of our salvation! We are the Temple of the Holy Spirit, and just as Jesus went into the temple in Jerusalem and threw out the trespassers, so he will throw out the trespassers in our Temple. Jesus told his Disciples (and that's US) that the Kingdom of Heaven if at hand,"and as ye go, heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead and cast out devils".....Can Matt. 10:8, get any clearer than that? Take a look at the world today.......it's a mess......the Kingdom of God is here, NOW, and moving!
I fear that some may read that first review at the top, and Satan will convince them that there is no problem!!! That is exactly what he wants God's people to think!!! Don't be deceived, God is not mocked!! He wants his people to be set free forever from satanic influences, and walk in Truth and Love. Jesus said, "If I by the finger of God cast out demons, then the Kingdom of God has come to you". Believe it! It's true. GOD BLESS YOU. SG
Absolute Hogwash Nov 15, 2006
I stumbled across this entry while searching for pig-related paraphernalia for my wife (she adores pigs), and I was amazed to see that the book is still on the market. I read this "deliverance" manual when I was a new Christian back in '87.
The authors blame nearly every kind of persistent sin on demonic activity, going so far as to claim that they hadn't met a Christian yet who didn't need to be freed of demonic influence. (Possession/ oppression... whatever you want to call it).
Frankly, this book terrified me as an impressionable young convert. I was convinced that my own fleshly appetites must be the result of demons inside of me. Then a remarkable thing happened: I began to open the Bible and read for myself what God has to say about the sin nature.
In particular, I stumbled across Romans 8:13-14 (ESV): "For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, "Abba! Father!"
The Holy Spirit, the divine Agent who makes us children of God, does not share the temple of our bodies with demons. Moreover, as the above passage makes clear, the believer is commanded to "put to death the deeds of the body," an idea hardly consistent with demons making Christians act in unseemly ways. In Christ we have been given the spiritual resources we need for sanctification.
I would suggest steering far away from this kind of literature that gives our defeated enemy way too much credit for what can be explained by human depravity. This book doesn't provide deliverance from anything, for the book itself IS bondage.
A "how to" Book That's Unforgettable Oct 29, 2006
Even though Christians live virtually in spiritual warfare, it is easy to forget that fact in this world of taxes, school lunch money, dentist appointments and the plain old business of making a living. Pigs in the Parlor reminds us in no uncertain terms that we need to remain ever conscious of an ever present enemy. This book explains methods of ridding ourselves and others of uninvited satanic visitors in our lives and in our very souls. Doctrine may have caused blinders to exist on my eyes before reading this book, but not anymore. Having tried these methods, I have come to face the fact that, indeed, these are true and viable methods for sending the enemy packing! I would reccomend this book to anyone unsure of exactly what the supernatural world of evil is capable of.
