Reviews - What do customers think about The Best of Singing News Collector's Edition Songbook (Songbooks and Folios)?
Great Feb 10, 2010
I was thrilled to find this book in a local bookstore and bought it without hesitation. The songs in here are great, and though what others mentioned about it only having one singing part is true.. most of these songs we know so well we already know all the parts for anyways.. but this was a great way to get the piano.
Best of Singing News May 11, 2009
I really liked the songs in this book, however, I was very dissapointed to find that there are no singing parts other than the melody written out on any of the music. I do agree with some of the other reviews that the book is bound too tightly, there are too many pages for the size of the binder, the pages are very hard to turn. I also didn't really care for all of the commentary/history that is inserted on all of the different singing groups. I did like how the index is arranged in a couple of different formats, making it very easy to find specific songs. Overall a little overpriced, but worth keeping.
**** Please Note **** This Book Arranged for Solo Voicing Only May 6, 2009
I bought this book thinking it would be a collection of various gospel songs as recorded by various gospel artists. It is such a collection. However, the sheet music is written for solo voice only on every song. The intent in buying this was to have various arrangements to sing with groups (ensembles, trios, quartets) but I was disappointed in that it was strictly written for solo voice - no additional parts are written. I returned it upon opening the book and realizing this. I was misled by the description and assumed it would be voiced appropriately for quartet, trio, etc. If you only care to sing solos then this might be a good collection for you, otherwise this is not the songbook for you.
