Last Word on the Filioque "Crisis" Nov 30, 2006
Mr. Swete's 1876 tome is generally universally referenced in any discussion of this esoteric theological controversy. His exposition of the problem is throrough and relies heavily on the original patristic and medieval documents. He provides the historical as well as theological context of the debate. To the 20th/21st century mind this is much angst and teeth-gnashing about very little but to the pious of the early Christian centuries much depended on the resolution of this dispute. This is a must-have for any aficionado of religious doctrinal conflicts, though it is very hard to find.
