Gwen Shamblin is a registered dietician with a master s degree in food and nutrition, and was a full-time faculty member at the University of Memphis for five years. She worked as a nutritionist for the state health department and has focused her consulting practice in the area of weight control since 1980. In 1986 she founded the Weigh Down Workshop, Inc., which is now in all fifty states, Canada, and Europe. She and her husband, David, and her children, Michael and Michelle, live in Nashville, Tennessee."

If you want to lose weight and keep it off, read this book!

This is about obeying God and staying within the boundaries of hunger. Waiting for your body to signal you that you are really hungry (not just head hunger--but stomach hunger, a growl from your stomach) and stoping eating when you are satisfied.

This is not about making the food obey you. It is about you listening to your body and its signals, hunger and what kinds of foods to eat.

I found this book very good for a person trying to loose weight without having to buy special foods, or having to do a lot of excersises.

This book is filled with scripture. I think some of her doctrinal issues are bit off, but holding to the main principles and the scriptures in this book are what really helped me to lose the weight, not to be a prisoner to the emotional attachment I had to food. She lays it out straight to not be a victim of circumstance and let it be an excuse for overeating, but to forget what is behind and strain toward what is ahead(a very biblical principle Philippians 3:13). I was formerly an addict to alcohol and cigarettes (been clean for 10 years now), but after I had given up those idols to numb me out when I didn't want to deal with life, I went to food. Over the December holidays and beginning of January, I've lost 6 lbs and I don't feel guilty about my eating anymore. What I plan to do is copy out the scriptures from the book to keep me motivated, that my focus is on God and not Gwen.

While the basic tenet of this book is Biblically relevant and helpful, Shamblin's subsequent books are heresey upon heresey. Her theology is of her own making and she seems to have violated her own teaching...worshiping food no longer but now worships herself.

This book is all about controlling your appetite. Stop eating when you are full. This book is written from a Christian perspective with also recommends prayer and diet as part of your spriritual life. The author recommends eating only the best part of your meal and leave what you do not want on your plate. The most important principle of all this book teaches is STOP EATING WHEN YOU ARE FULL. This one principle alone boils down what has caused our obesity epedemic in this country, not knowing what it feels like to be full. The author teaches you what hunger feels like and how to use it to guide you eating. This is a huge part of the weight loss puzzle, I would also recommend the following that taught me how to lose 60 pounds and keep it off:
1). Mastering the Zone (Learn how much Protein and Carbs your body needs)
2). Super Foods Rx (Learn what foods give you the most nutrition for calories consumed)
3).The Real Age Diet (Learn how to eat to make yourself younger)
4). High blood pressure solution (Learn how to much sodium in your diet causes high blood pressure)
