More About Robin Jones Gunn
When Robin Jones Gunn was in first grade her teacher wrote on her report card, “Robin keeps the entire class entertained at rug time with her stories.”
Even with such an early affirmation, Robin didn’t seriously consider becoming a writer during high school or college. She was more intrigued by the idea of traveling to foreign lands and telling people about God’s love.
But Robin’s husband also noticed her gift for story-telling and urged her to attend a writers’ conference. That first conference opened the door for publication of devotions, articles, interviews and eventually 15 children’s books.
While on a camping trip with their church youth group, Robin grew concerned when she saw what the girls were reading in their tent. The 13 year-old girls challenged her, saying, “If you don’t want us to read these books then you should write novels for us. We’ll even tell you what to write. How hard could that be?”
Early Mornings in Robin’s Nest
For over two years Robin carved out time to write by getting up at 3am, three days a week. Each week she would read the finished pages to the girls in the youth group and they would send her home to write and rewrite some more. After ten rejections Robin’s first novel was accepted for publication and released in 1988. More books followed and soon the Christy Miller series was joined by the Sierra Jensen series, the College Years and the Katie Weldon series. Thousands of readers have contacted Robin over the years to let her know how these stories changed their life.
Robin continued exploring other avenues of storytelling with gentle romances in the Glenbrooke series, women’s friendships in the Sisterchicks® series and family relationships in five women’s novels and two Father Christmas novellas.
Stories Travel the Globe
Over the past 25 years Robin has written 82 books with almost 4.5 million copies sold worldwide. To her great delight, Robin’s books are doing exactly what she always hoped to do – they are traveling around the world and telling people about God’s love. She is doing the same. Over the past ten years Robin has been invited to speak at events around the US and Canada as well as in South America, Africa, Europe and Australia.
Robin and her husband have two grown children and have been married for 35 years. They live in Hawai’i where she continues to write and speak in rhythm with her life verse:
“But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the LORD Jesus – the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” Acts 20:24.
Robin Jones Gunn currently resides in Portland, in the state of Oregon. Robin Jones Gunn was born in 1955.

An Uplifting Story of the Spirit of Christmas Nov 29, 2009
In this follow up to Finding Father Christmas, Miranda returns to England for Christmas with a new boyfriend and a new extended family. A twist of events makes Miranda question everything that she has learned to appreciate. Both books tie into the true meaning of Christmas and are uplifting stories of the peace and grace that the spirit of Christmas can bring. Miranda may not have found her true birth father but she did find the true Father of Christmas which is a blessing that we can all find.
Sweetly charming. Jul 15, 2009
A sequel to Finding Father Christmas.
Miranda Carson returns to England and her newly found family and boyfriend. However, the happy Christmas reunion she expected does not unfold as she anticipated. Illness and family secrets threaten Miranda's new life. As she hopes for her dreams to come true, Miranda and others learn about love and acceptance and what it means to be a family. The Whitcombe and MacGregor families are just as charming here. We also get better acquainted, especially with Ian, Julia and Mark.
Like the first book, this one is light and somewhat predictable. It's also delightful. Perfect for curling up by a fire with a cup of cocoa. Sweetly charming.
Warm Christmas story Jun 11, 2009
Engaging Father Christmas is a perfect Christmastime read! This is the second book in the Father Christmas series. The first book is Finding Father Christmas and I found myself wishing I had read it before this one. I didn't feel lost or confused, but I was curious to know more about what had happened in the first book since I enjoyed this one so much.
This was a light, enjoyable and engaging read. It's not a glossy, everything is perfect, kind of story, though. There were plenty of kinks thrown in and more than one heart-tugging moment. This is the kind of book that will lift your spirits and leave you with a smile (and probably a tear in your eye). Can you tell that I thoroughly enjoyed it?
I admit I had my doubts. I thought it might be a cheesy, corny, made-for-TV kind of story but those thoughts quickly dissipated as the characters became real and I found myself engrossed in their lives. This is a book that I will want to revisit every Christmas.
Now, go grab a cup of cocoa (or tea since this is set in the UK!), curl up with a blanket by the fire and let yourself be swept away by Miranda and Ian. You will be blessed!
An Old Fashioned English Christmas Dec 22, 2008
Miranda Carson has returned to England for another Christmas. This time she has someone to return to with her boyfriend Ian. Also she's hoping to reconnect again with her newly discovered family and praying that she will be accepted at last. She's worried most about the matriarch of the family, Margaret because she knows that her very presence will hurt her. Meanwhile Ian's father suffers a heart attack which puts worry that the traditional Christmas play will not be able to be performed as planned. Will someone else be able to fill Father Christmas' shoes?
Are you lover of Christmas, an Anglophile and happen to be a Robin Jones Gunn fan as well? Well this book is perfect for you then. If you've always wanted to experience a British Christmas but funds are tight, this is the next best thing. I could totally picture myself in England, driving in the small town, seeing the play and having tea. The details in the descriptions are one of Robin's trademarks, to actually have the reader feel like they are experiencing the story. I think the British Father Christmas is so more regal than our Santa Claus. I loved the selflessness of Mark and Julia and the hospital kids. You can't learn more about the true meaning of Christmas than that! Learning more about Miranda's story was wonderful. I'm glad that we find out more about her new family and their steps to accepting her. Reading the first book in the series, Finding Father Christmas, is a must because it goes into detail more of the storyline about Miranda's past. The first book is short and sweet just like this one so it's possible to finish both books in one day. You are guaranteed to get into Christmas spirit after reading these no matter what time of the year. I really hope there will be at least one more book in the series. It's just simply delightful.
An engaging story Dec 17, 2008
In this delightful follow-up to Finding Father Christmas, Miranda Carson travels back to Carlton Heath, England to spend the holidays with her new found family and boyfriend Ian. Little does Miranda know that the secret of who her true father is, is about to be made public after such pains being taken to keep it within the family circle. Not only that, but a sudden illness of a dear friend, Ian's Father, lends worry to all, while at the same time bringing out a bit of the true meaning of Christmas.
Can a true reconciliation occur with the head of the Whitcombe family and can Miranda finally find a place to call her own, as well as a family to call her own?
Engaging Father Christmas is a delightful, heartwarming and engrossing novel that shows that through faith, anything is possible. Once again, Ms Gunn displays her wonderful talent of bringing characters to life within a vivid and realistic background. Both Finding Father Christmas and Engaging Father Christmas encompass the true meaning of Christmas and this wonderful time of year where family, faith and Goodwill are the greatest gifts of all.
