Reviews - What do customers think about Field Guide to Neighborhood Outreach?
One home at a time Jan 10, 2008
You want to get to know the people who live by you. You want to help create a safe neighborhood. You want to share God's grace with others. You want to fulfil God's commmand to go into all the world, starting with your neighborhood. This book is for you and is really a must read for everyone! It is packed, cover to cover, with practical ideas to meet your neighbors and build relationships with them. The book is laid out in an easy to follow format. There are holiday ideas, sports related ideas, indoor ideas, food ideas, community ideas. There is everything from the neighborhood clean up days and garage sale days to parenting seminars and cooking classes, flag football and flower bulb swaps, book clubs and bunco, patriotic pet parade and Easter egg hunts. The only problem is, which one to implement first!
Helped me meet my neighbors and share God's love!! Sep 13, 2007
Sadly, gone are the days of sitting on the front porch and hanging out with your neighbors. This little book is packed with simple yet effective ways to get to know those you wave to as you back out of your driveway every morning, those you chat with at the bus stop and those who live closest to you yet you don't know them and they don't know you! It is set up in short, easy to read one page ideas for creating a caring community, eating together with your neighbors, neighborhood sports and outdoor fun, indoor games and holiday celebrations. My favorite section was the "How to reach out to your neighborhood" section. It is 9 pages jam packed with ideas, encouragement and success stories! And following the inspiration I received reading that section the author didn't leave me hanging but gave me tons of practical ideas on how to make friendship happen with my neighbors!
Our Neighborhood Will Never Be the Same Sep 10, 2007
My family and I live in an area where it is not easy to get to know your neighbors. People tend to stick to themselves and only "socialize" with family (perhaps this sounds familiar to you, too?). This book is packed full of ideas of how to get to know the people who live around you and literally "change your community!" Sometimes it just takes a little book like this to give you the ideas and the courage to break out of your shell and make a difference.
Packed with a Variety of Ideas! Jul 14, 2007
For a small book, this Field Guide is entirely packed from cover to cover with user-friendly, creative ideas! I love the organization of it...divisions of Creating a Caring Environment, Food-Related Outreach, Sports and Outdoor Fun, Indoor Fun and Friendship (including movie nights, complete with discussion questions and more!), and Holidays and Seasonal Celebration! One of my favorites is the "Dinner by Design." Simply pick a theme (a time era, location, or even color!) and have a potluck based on that theme! What a simple, non-threatening way to include more people into your small group, invite neighbors, or include "non-committal" persons! The only struggle I have now is...which idea to try first!
