From Publishers Weekly Infertility treatments, twins, more infertility treatments, followed by six beating hearts on an ultrasound screen. That sets up the Gosselins' memoir of the exhausting and joyous events surrounding the births of their now famous sextuplets. Those familiar with the TLC program Jon & Kate Plus 8 know how their household runs; now their story comes alive for readers as well. Kate admits, "I was a bit of a control freak," yet also quickly draws on and receives the "peace of God... like a security blanket" through her months in the hospital, Jon's job loss and the impending arrivals. Details such as how they chose names; the sextuplets' birth day of May 10, 2004; and the babies' weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit are fascinating, as are stories of running a household that was perpetually full of volunteers, looked like "baby base camp" and required carefully sequenced nightly bath time. The Gosselins' life is a whirlwind, with their book reflecting the fast-paced, faith-filled approach they take to raising their twins and their miracle sextuplets. Enjoyed Dec 24, 2009
I read this before the family drama hit the fan. I watched the show from the beginning, before it became a huge deal. I enjoyed reading the book, learning more about the family and the struggles they overcame. I hope the gratitude they have for all those who helped them was sincere.

Great book, well written and a true look into Kate's personality, trials and joys of raising 8 children. She shows a genuine appreciation and love for John and it is a shame that at the present time "the ending" isn't a happy one. God Bless Kate her 8 beautiful "gifts" and Jon who really needs Gods blessings!!
great book Nov 30, 2009
i loved the book, i read it in about 3 days..it keeps you interested. i would absolutely recommend the book...
Glad I checked it out from the library rather than buying it Nov 27, 2009
I'm not a "Jon and Kate plus 8" viewer, so the things in the book were all new to me. The family in this book seems to be quite different from the national media spectacle they are now. I found the writing style to be overly precious. It was like she decided the book wasn't long enough and threw in more adjectives like a high schooler writing a paper. Kate makes herself very unlikeable and despite Jon being credited as an author, the story is told entirely from Kate's viewpoint, never his.
The details are very interesting; how they chose the names, what life was like on bedrest and in the early days of trying to parent that many young children, but there definitely could have been more to this. I thought the details about rejecting the child they could have adopted were sad too. I would think that this opportunity falling into her lap this way when she had been wanting another baby, but struggling with infertility was a definite sign from her God! People wait years for the opportunity to adopt a newborn.
I think books are the format they should have stuck to for sharing their story. I don't watch the show, but it seems like it's all but ruined their family life. This shares some of what life is like with 8 young children without being as invasive as a reality show.
Overall, I am glad I checked this out from the library and didn't spend any money on it. It's interesting for one quick read, but doesn't have any re-read value.
