Item description for Back Home (Picture Books) by Gloria Jean Pinkney & Jerry Pinkney...
Overview Even though eight-year-old Ernestine lives with her family up North, "back home" is Lumberton, North Carolina, the place where she was born and where her mama grew up. From the moment she steps off the train, Ernestine feels right at home in the lush, green countryside, working on the family farm, and spending time with her aunt, uncle, and cousins. This nostalgic, sweetly humorous visit home--based on Gloria Pinkney's own childhood memories--is perfect for intergenerational sharing. Full color.

Back Home May 31, 2009
Ernestine visited her uncle and aunt at her birthplace. When she first arrives, she's overjoyed when her uncles tell her about where she was born. However, her cousin Jack thinks she too citified and makes fun at her. Ernestine doesn't' like that and the story doesn't develop beyond that. Ernestine never solves the problem of Jack being mean.
