This book is so revealing! I am just begining to understand all the types and symbols in the bible. Any seeker and teacher should have this book as a study guide.
Fairly Comprehensive and Well Organized Nov 26, 2006
I was looking for a book to help me understand the "types" and symbols used in the Bible. For instance, Isaac is a "type" (foreshadowing) of Jesus and Abraham is a "type" of the Father -- in that he was going to sacrifice his son. When water appears in the Bible, it represents death and spiritual rebirth (such as the parting of the Red Sea or the crossing of the Jordan). The book is divided up into categories such as "The Earth" (Land, soil, moutains, stones, earthen vessels) or "Substances and Colors" (Blood, bread, honey, incense, metals, the rainbow, blue, gold, purple), or "Creatures" (The beast, birds, dogs, donkeys, fish, horses) and so on.
In my opinion, this book is designed for someone with at least passing knowledge of the Bible, both Old and New Testaments.
Although the examples in my review are from the Old Testament, the author includes real Biblical examples from the entire Book to support his claims -- sometimes with a direct quotation and sometimes with a simple citation of chapter and verse. I like that, because it forces me to do my own research on issues instead of just taking his word for it. "Connections" is both physically and informationally bigger than I expected it to be!

This book is very useful. Didn't like the cover or the format much (it felt like it needed to be a different shape/size) but the content is like gold. Glen Carpenter has a solid grasp on the biblical meanings of symbols, and clearly explains the significance of these types & symbols. And on top of that, parts of it are just a good read.
