Item description for Java With the Judges (Coffee Cup Bible Series) by Sandra Glahn...
Overview Under the capable leadership of Moses and Joshua, the nation of Israel marched into the Promised Land. After many successful military campaigns, Israel generally pursued the pagan peoples, and God?s people stood clearly in charge. On the eve of Joshua?s death, the nation?s future couldn?t have appeared brighter. But the outlook wasn?t as bright as it seemed. The nation, having fallen short of complete obedience to God, was about to receive some tough love over a lengthy period of time. During this time, Israel plunged into a seemingly endless cycle of sin, suffering, repentance, and temporary deliverance. In Java with the Judges, Sandra Glahn explores lesser-known facts about the fifteen men and women mentioned in the Bible that led God?s people through trying times. Sandra has adapted this study on Israel?s judges in such a convenient way that it can be read during brief lulls in a woman?s daily schedule that present opportunities for meditation and study (breakfast, lunch, coffee breaks, etc.). Each weekly study in Java with the Judges begins with an introduction to be done on Sundays, followed by five days of studying Scripture and making pertinent life applications along the way. The weekly studies are concluded with fitting devotional readings to be read on Saturdays. These devotionals contain an overview of what has been studied throughout the week along with some closing thoughts and a prayer. Sandra?s unconventional thought processes regarding the judges are sprinkled throughout as she shatters preconceived myths about the commonly known judges (Gideon, Samson, Deborah, etc.) and sheds light on some of the more obscure ones (Othniel, Ehud, and others). As a result, more emphasis is placed on the vulnerabilities of these men and women and the fact that God chose each of these flawed creatures to use for His greater glory.
""Java with the Judges is part of the Coffee Cup Bible Studies, a series of Bible studies for women in compact, workbook format that examine the "life and times" of certain Bible characters and the books of the Bible that pertain to them. Reviews - What do customers think about Java With the Judges (Coffee Cup Bible Series)?
Israel's judges Mar 8, 2007
Once again, Sandra Glahn has outdone herself. Her insights are outstanding, and the questions she provides in this study provoke further insight from her readers. Like others in the series this may used individually or with groups. Her inclusion of Scripture, including that which is relevant other than the book of Judges alone, adds the element of convenience.

Who knew the book of Judges could be so fascinating? Jul 1, 2006
I'm just finishing up this study and am looking forward to getting my hands on the rest of the series! With three young children at home, finding time to stay consistently in my Bible is a challenge. But Sandra's style keeps me eagerly seeking to carve out time in the Word on a regular basis. Daily lessons are short enough to feel "doable," yet deep enough to satisfy my thirsty soul. With Scripture text included in the easy study format, this book is not only fascinating but also portable enough to fit it into my lifestyle wherever rare moments of quiet occur. Great study for seasoned Believers or those newly exploring Faith!
Not your usual Bible study Jul 1, 2006
What a tremendous resource Java with the Judges is! I'd read through Judges a bit perplexed, thankful to study the book in depth through the lenses of Glahn's impeccable research and warm writing style. I'm forever thankful for her insights, particularly this: "Even our flaws can't thwart God's purposes." She presents the judges as flawed, earthy folk and rightly points out God's sovereignty and power, despite loving a people prone to stray. I particularly enjoyed Glahn's discussion of women, how she debunks some common myths and elevates women in the process. An overall refreshing Bible study!
This study has it all. Jun 28, 2006
For the woman who is desires a more in-depth study in the Word of God (specifically the book of Judges), but with practical/devotional applications--look no further! In a book of the Bible where failure to do the right thing is commonplace, Sandra's insightful commentary challenges the reader's own personal relationship with God. The book is perfect for small a group of women who want to start a Bible study, a Sunday School class, or just for the individual wanting to gain a further understanding into Judges. You will be blessed.
