Reviews - What do customers think about Heaven at Home: Establishing and Enjoying a Peaceful Home?
Some people have an agenda & it's not Mrs. Plowman!! Jan 8, 2010
I was reading the reviews of this book & happened to look at the dates of the 1 star negative reviews... they were all done in about a week span. I'm guessing none of them even read this book, so their reviews won't truly help the one searching for truth. I am openly admitting I have not read this book, but I have read "Don't make me count to Three" by Ginger Plowman & if this is anything like that one, it's great for the Christian Parent who wants to train their children to follow God's Word. I believe Mrs. Plowman's desire is that she wants us all to care more about our children's hearts than just outward good behavior.
Lessons To Be Learned Mar 24, 2009
This book is most definitely geared toward married women who are stay at home moms. There is nothing wrong with that, but as I am a single mom who has to work full-time outside the home, I didn't find some of the more practical aspects of the book to be all that helpful. Obviously, the chapters on marriage were not of much help to me either.
With that being said, there are still some fantastic lessons contained in the book about patience, forgiveness, sanctification and child-rearing.
The people who are knocking the book for one small aspect that she addresses (that of spanking) are truly missing the point. If you feel spanking is wrong, that's great for you, but perhaps it would be better to practice some of the tolerance that you are preaching. I have raised 3 children and they were all different. Anyone who says "I would never spank my child" isn't being realistic. You can't take a cookie cutter approach to raising children.
I enjoyed many of the things that the author had to say about raising your children. She encourages you to ask thought-provoking questions of them. To spend time with them one on one. To see them for the blessings that they are and not to view them as burdens.
GREAT BOOK!!!! Mar 10, 2009
love love love this book! very helpful, very practical, very grace-filled! we went through this in our ladies small group. would highly recommend!
great book, ignore the one-star reviews written by left-wing wackos Jan 13, 2009
This is a great book on home management and parenting. Don't miss it just because of some one-star reviews written by anti-Christian dogmaticians. Plowman offers wise words on how to manage your home and children in a way that pleases God and leads to a happier home life.
Some Helpful Ideas Sep 7, 2008
I have to agree with several other reviews on Plowman's view on spankings, but that is not all that this book addresses. I have a Master's degree in Psychology and have worked with kids for 20 years. I also have 3 of my own and I know that any spanking done in anger is abuse. That is not what she is suggesting. Some kids respond well to timeout and some do not. Spanking can be used successfully for some children when done in love and not anger. I believe that firm, consistant punishment is the best way to teach a child. I did like Plowan's ideas on having the children help around the house, getting more organized, and of course surrounding yourself in loving relationships. Please do not think that this book is all about spanking because it is just one brief topic.
