Item description for The HolyGrail (Pocket Essential series) by Giles Morgan...
Pocket Essentials is a dynamic series of books that are concise, lively, and easy to read. Packed with facts as well as expert opinions, each book has all the key information you need to know about such popular topics as film, television, cult fiction, history, and more. Through its various guises as magic cauldron, cornucopia, and chalice cup, the Holy Grail has remained at the center of popular culture since antiquity. Charting the story of the Grail offers a revealing insight into the cultural shift from Celtic paganism to the emergence and domination of Christianity in Western Europe; the influence of Eastern mysticism emerges in the Grail romances as a result of the medieval crusades, with its clash of cultures and subsequent cross-pollination of ideas. Finally, the Grail has come to symbolize the ultimate achievement in the modern mind, and Carl Jung, T.S. Eliot, Richard Wagner, William Blake, and the Pre-Raphaelites are just some of those who have fallen under its enduring spell.

Reviews - What do customers think about The HolyGrail (Pocket Essential series)?
Great Grail Jun 26, 2008
I bought this book with only limited knowledge of Grail lore, with most of that from the King Arthur Legends. Giles Morgan did a very nice job with his book, The Holy Grail. It considers the novice like me and gives an in depth history on the Grail and its caldron shaped predecessors. Throughout the pages Morgan follows the Grail as it appears in literature, movies, religion and quest folklore across time, countries and cultures. This tale of The Holy Grail is as fantastic as the many stories which include the iconic cup itself.

This is a good introduction to a complicated subject, readable and up to date, basic yet as comprehensive as an introductory work can be.
