Gerard Reidy, born 1958, grew up in Mayo. He now lives with his family in Westport where he works as a civil engineer. This is his first collection of poetry.
Gerard Reidy has published poems in many journals and literary magazines and has won several poetry prizes. He has appeared in the Mayo Anthologies over the past number of years.
Reidy's poetry is unique in that it views with a clear, loving and sceptical eye the rural landscapes of the west of Ireland, positioned as he is between the dank and dismal hungers of the land and spirit and the fierce urge towards modernity now informing the country. His language is fiercely uncompromising, uniting the immediacies of country speech with the awareness of literary subtleties. His approach is daring and true, his success is palpable.
