Item description for Little Red Feather: Book 1: Adventures of Courage and Spiritual Power as Lived by a Young Indian Boy in the Early American West by Gerald R. Riddle...
Long ago, the People lived freely on the Western frontier. They believed there was a dimension beyond the physical, that things most real were things not seen with the eye. To the People, this was lifeas great mystery. Little Red Feather was one of the People. He led a life of adventure. His relationship with family and friends, and bonds he made with some of nature's more spectacular creatures were a part of each adventure. The wild ponies that roamed the High Country, the solitary wolves that lived and hunted in the great mountains, and the hawk that lived in the cliffs, were but a few of nature's creatures that became a part of his life. When faced with lifeas mysteries and challenges, Little Red Feather always sought the counsel of parents and grandparents. Then, he would turn to his Creator, and ask him to guide his path.

Little Red Feather will steady the attention of your children, while instilling moral lessons of respect, good will, and gratefulness throughout its chapters. 5 stars!!
A good read for young and old. Dec 11, 2008
This is a delightful book of stories about an Indian Boy growing up. This book takes Little Red Feather from the age of about 11 years through age 12. Each chapter tells a separate story about his adventures, but there is continuity from one chapter to the next. The illustration on the cover shows the main characters in the book. There is an illustration at the beginning of each chapter which hints at the content of that chapter.
The book is suitable for adults as well as children ages of 3 and up. It looks like the author has done considerable research to make the stories authentic according to the tribe described - which seems to be the Sioux or Pawnee of the mid-western planes and the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and Wyoming.
