Item description for The Making of a Pastoral Person by Gerald R. Niklas...
Overview This book will be an invaluable aid to all who are attempting to grow and perfect their pastoral skills. Utilizing insights from contemporary psychology and pastoral practice to explain the laws and dynamics of ministering to groups as well as to individuals in a pastoral setting, this new expanded and revised edition of this highly acclaimed work presents a model of ongoing pastoral formation that combines Christian spirituality with a keen appreciation of the human emotions, sexuality and the role of authority in ministry. With nearly forty years of pastoral experience in the priesthood, Fr. Niklas combines the lofty truths of the faith with a down-to-earth approach to human problems in settings which are often very difficult and challenging. The Making of a Pastoral Person reflects Fr. Niklas' own struggle to be more holy and human through helping others and being helped himself in the process. Whether assisting people in a hospital environment (doctors, nurses, administrators, and patients) or in a bereavement situation (family, friends and providers of professional assistance at the time of a death), pastoral techniques offer only one facet of effective ministry. The personal and spiritual dimension must likewise be present. This book will be an invaluable aid to priests, deacons, religious and lay people who are attempting to grow as persons and to perfect their own pastoral skills as they do so.

The making Of A Pastoral Person May 12, 2003
This book is absolutly fantastic for any one entering ministry in all its shapes and forms. This book really spoke to me. It is important to reflect on what is written in the book with ones own person journey, and to reflect on what we do and when we do it and for what reasons.
