George Wesley Buchanan is Professor Emeritus of New Testament, Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, DC, and he is on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Biblical Archaeology Review.
The third in a family of ten children, Buchanan emerged from a childhood lamentably clouded by persistent ill health to start a career as a pastor. Overcoming adversity is part of our American national character, as is individualism and George Buchanan exhibits both traits in abundance.
