Item description for Men of Character: Samuel: A Lifetime Serving God (Getz, Gene a. Men of Character.) by Gene A. Getz & Bill Bright...
Overview Facing moral relativism head on, this great servant led his people against the tide of popular culture. Israel's history was a rollercoaster of faithfulness and rebellion. In a time of great wickedness, Samuel assumed a leadership role by faithfully preaching and following the Word of God. Like today, immorality in Samuel's time was rampant, and the culture was drifting away from the Lord. The book of Judges describes this time by saying, "Everyone did what was right in his own eyes." Challenged by such moral relativism, Samuel stood up for the Lord and proclaimed what was right in the midst of incredible opposition. Even when Israel rejected God as their leader for a human king, Samuel continued to serve God faithfully as High Priest of the Lord. The Men of Character series highlights the lives of men in the Bible whose relationships with God we can learn from today. Each of these leaders faced trials, frustration and failure, yet was inspired by God to achieve great goals. In a world where Christian role models seem increasingly rare, this series reminds us that some of the most worthy examples of godly character are still the biblical figures who brought power, wisdom, and inspiration to God's people through the ages.
One in a series of twelve books by Gene Getz examining role models of the Old and New Testaments in situations relevant to modern times.
