Item description for Men of Character: Abraham: Holding Fast to the Will of God (Getz, Gene a. Men of Character.) by Gene A. Getz...
Overview Leading his family through a depraved and sinful world, faith is a father's truest guide. Out of a sinful and pagan world, God called Abraham to leave everything and everyone he knew and travel to a land he had never seen. Abraham stepped out in faith, yet he hesitated and delayed. Throughout his long life, it was only when Abraham fully yielded himself to the will of God, that God could fulfill His will through Abraham. Only his unconditional faith in God finally produced the son of prophecy, Isaac, and brought Abraham's family safely through the long journey to Canaan. In the ultimate test of his faith, Abraham was commanded to sacrifice Isaac as an offering to God. His willingness to do so without question proved him worthy of the blessing and riches God had promised. The MEN OF CHARACTER series highlights the lives of men in the Bible whose relationships with God we can learn from today. Each of these leaders faced trials, frustration and failure, yet was inspired by God to achieve great goals. In a world where Christian role models seem increasingly rare, this series reminds us that some of the most worthy examples of godly character are still the biblical figures who brought power, wisdom and inspiration to God's people through the ages.

Reviews - What do customers think about Men of Character: Abraham: Holding Fast to the Will of God (Getz, Gene a. Men of Character.)?
A Great Introduction to the Life of Abraham Aug 27, 2007
"Abraham" is another installment in Gene Getz' Men of Character series on various male biblical figures. There are 12 chapters with the following titles:
1. God's Great Redemptive Plan 2. Following God Fully 3. Abraham's Plan "Goes South" 4. A Skeleton in the Closet 5. A Disastrous Decision 6. A Bout With Fear 7. A Pure Motive But a Wrong Method 8. Thirteen Silent Years (one of my favorite chapters) 9. Out of the Darkness (another good chapter) 10. Sarah's Most Embarrasing Moment 11. Forgiven - But Facing the Consequences 12. The Final Exam
The book is easy to read and is excellent for the layperson or pastor who is looking for material on Abraham to preach on.
Read, enjoy, and be encouraged to learn from Abrham's successes and failures. Highly recommended.
