Item description for Gary Ladd's Canyon Light: Grand Canyon & Lake Powell (Cerca Book) by Gary Ladd...
Gary Ladd conresses, "I'm not really so much a photographer as just a nosy soul interested in the canyons." But, Gary Ladd is far more than a mere observer. For him, photographing the wondrous and ever-changing beauty of both the Grand Canyon and Lake Powell has become an obsession.
Ladd has hiked and camped the Grand Canyon over 70 times in over two decades, often carrying 80-pound packs of camera gear, and rowed a wooden dory through the Grand Canyon, to capture the images you see here.
His large-format images of scattered sunlight reverberating off the wind-sculpted canyon walls, the crosscrossing pattern of rippling water, the sharp, red jags of rock, the pinks petals of the redbud tree, illuminate the landscapes' splendor.

The Supurb Photography of Gary Ladd Dec 18, 2003
To those with an interest in the Colorado Plateau(more specifically the Grand Canyon & the Lake Powell area) the name Gary Ladd will be familiar. He one of the finest Large Format landscape photographers in the southwest. What is a little unusual is that he has devoted almost his entire career(30 yrs) to a very specific area: The Grand Canyon & Lake Powell. The tack sharp images are beautiful & are printed on excellent stock. These are not the usual overlooks that many are familiar with.Ladd has done strenuous hikes and spent over 50 days in the Canyon photographing the Colorado & the beautiful side canyons. He has given us photographs of places that very few of us will ever see. There are also excellent essays that Ladd has written. Each photo is captioned with as many as three comments relating to the land, his experience while taking the image, and information about the image.I loved this book and recommend it to anyone who loves the canyons of the southwest and those who would like to see the canyons through the eyes of a master.
