Reviews - What do customers think about The Person I Marry: Things I'll Think About Long Before Saying "I Do" (Bright Future Books)?
FANTASTIC book Mar 26, 2010
This about the fairy tales you were raised on. Who gets the girl? The HANDSOME prince, with a big castle / horse / estate. Whom does he woo? The BEAUTIFUL, petite, demure princess with long hair (and usually fair skin).
So, what are we REALLY teaching our kids about what to look for in a future husband or wife??
This book is an undiscovered and precious gem! It focuses, instead, on CHARACTER QUALITIES that we should look for. In gentle rhyming prose, it describes and defines such attributes as kindness, courage, honesty, respect, courtesy, faithfulness, humility, a sense of humor, and having a forgiving spirit.
The illustrations are truly beautiful and captivating; I found them quite moving.
The book is suitable as a gift for either a boy OR a girl. As for what age...I would give this book even to a late teenager, because so often they completely forget what's most important in choosing a date, a boyfriend/girlfriend, or a spouse.
I came across this book at a convention, and immediately bought 6 of them. I've given them all away as birthday presents, and am going to buy more as soon as I'm done writing this review!
KUDOS to the author.
Beautiful Book for Little Kids About Marriage! Dec 5, 2008
I was so surprised when I read this beautifully illustrated book for children about the qualities to look for in the person you marry. Who would have thought of writing such a great book about such an adult subject for children? The answer is, a husband and father of twelve children.
The book teaches children that it's what is inside a person that is important, not looks. In beautiful rhyming verses the author tells us about qualities like gentleness, dependability, caring, joyfulness, patience, forgiving, faithfulness, being prayerful and many more.
From one of my favorite pages(and, it is hard to choose a favorite because there are so many good verses):
"The person I marry will never forget to dignify life, each person and pet. Since God is Creator and He is supreme, we'll treat His creation with proper esteem.
One who acknowledges people have worth is precious and rare; a gem on this earth. And I want a gem, so the one I select must honor our families and show them respect."
Although the suggested age range is 4-8, I believe that kids as old as 10 will enjoy reading this book and learn from it.
Great Gift for Newly Engaged Oct 24, 2008
My husband and I mentor engaged couples through our Church. This is a wonderful book to give them as a gift after they have completed their classes. We will definitely be buying more of them.
