More About Gloria Gaither
Author, award-winning songwriter, and speaker, Gloria Gaither is known as a stateswoman in the field of Christian ministry. Gloria has written lyrics to more than 600 songs, including such gospel classics as "Because He Lives," "The King Is Coming," and "I Am a Promise" and has authored such best-selling books as "Because He Lives, God Gave the Song", and "Friends through Thick and Thin".
Gloria Gaither (born March 4, 1942) is a Christian songwriter, author, speaker, editor, and academic. She is the wife of Bill Gaither and together they have written more than 700 songs. She performed, traveled and recorded with the Bill Gaither Trio from 1965 through 1985. Since 1990, she has served as a performer, recording artist, songwriter, scriptwriter and narrator for the Gaither Homecoming series of television broadcasts, video and DVD releases, and audio recordings.
She was born Gloria Lee Sickal in 1942 in Michigan, a daughter of pastor Lee Sickal and Dorothy Sickal. She spent most of her childhood and high school career in the Battle Creek area of Michigan, working a brief time for the Kellogg Company. When Sickal graduated from high school, she attended Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana. There, she triple majored in English, French, and Sociology. Upon her graduation, she took a job at Alexandria Monroe High School as a French teacher. There, she met Bill Gaither, who was teaching English at the time. She married Gaither in 1962, and they began writing songs recreationally.
Bill and Gloria began writing songs in the 1960s, and many those songs (including Because He Lives, I Am Loved, Something Beautiful and many others) would go on to become church hymn book standards across North America and around the world. By the end of the 1960s, Gloria, Bill, and Bill's brother Danny Gaither were touring steadily as the Bill Gaither Trio, singing and recording songs Bill and Gloria had written. After touring with the Bill Gaither Trio for nearly 20 years, Gaither drew her focus to the Gaither Homecoming series. She has been an active presence in every video production. In 1991, she attended Ball State University and received a Master of Arts in British and American Literature. She taught as an adjunct professor at Anderson University from 1987-1988 and 1996-1997.
In 1996, she spearheaded the creation of Gaither Family Resources in Alexandria, Indiana, and currently serves as co-owner and managing director. In 2002, Gaither launched Homecoming: The Magazine, and she currently acts as writer, interviewer, and contributing editor.
In 2000, Bill and Gloria were named Christian Songwriters of the Century by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), an award based on the songwriters who have had the most songs recorded over the past 100 years. Gloria is the recipient of seven honorary doctorate degrees, and she is the author of more than 40 books including 20 children's books.
Gloria Gaither currently resides in Alexandria, in the state of Indiana.

Reviews - What do customers think about Book Of Simple Prayers?
Heartwarming and adoring prayers Feb 5, 2009

Have you ever picked up a book of prayers and told yourself that they were basically all the same? I have on a few occasions. The same thought floated through my mind when I picked up "A Book of Simple Prayers." I was wondering if it would be a collection with all the same words as that of other prayer books. I was delighted and very pleased to see that I was wrong. This book of prayers was very unique, very distinctive from the rest. Gloria Gaither brought us a collection of words that I have never read before and I was happy to read on.
Some of the prayers were so enlightening; I actually have since used some of them. I know that God listens to all words, but I knew that he would listen to some of the prayers in particular that came from this book.
Gloria Gaither is a well-known songwriter, so she has a special way with words. A lot of the prayers in this book, she has used herself and now she is sharing them with all of us. Some are heartwarming, adoring, and just so lovely. We all experience daily trials and tribulations and sometimes just praying can help. But when you learn some things that also have helped other people in their lives, it makes you want to learn and speak those words yourself. We all need prayers in times of grief, death, love, childbirth, family illness and many more things. Grief can make us doubtful and just plain confused. We can't think as well as we should when we need to, when we are grieving. In this book, you can read straight from it, and the readings will comfort you. The book helps us and guides us with very hopeful verses. I want to thank Gloria for this book. It has helped me and I am sure many others through many terrible times. I look forward to more books like this one from Gloria. I wish her the best in future writings!
When you have something to tell God but don't know how May 28, 2008
Miss Gloria is at once eloquent yes speaks simply. She is a gifted writer and helps me to feel God's presence. Her new book does the same, and I turn to it when there is something on my heart but I just cannot seem to truly express it to God.
