Item description for Catholic and Ecumenical: History and Hope by S.M. Frederick M. Bliss & Frederick M. Bliss S. M....

Overview
Ecumenical consciousness has not always been part of the Catholic experience. Frederick M. Bliss, S.M. traces how the concern for ecumenism came about-from uneasy tension to confidence in the true grace of catholicity. This new edition follows significant developments in dialogues with the Catholic Church up to 2006 and suggests likely trends of continuing change. It studies the forces that had an impact on the Second Vatican Council, forces that continue to steer the church into relationships with other Christian communities, other religions, and the world.

Reviews - What do customers think about Catholic and Ecumenical: History and Hope?

Excellent survey of Catholic ecumenism  Jul 16, 2009
Despite the clear instruction of the Council and the reiteration of every pope since - and none more adamant than Benedict XVI - it seems some people, even within the Catholic Church, do not understand that commitment to ecumenism is a non-negotiable and essential part of Catholic identity. Fr. Bliss does an excellent job surveying the history of division and reconciliation, the current status of our inter-ecclesial relationships, and the theology and practice of the Catholic Church in its commitment to Christian Unity. This should be required reading for all aspiring ecumenists and for all seminarians and other candidates for pastoral ministry.
