Item description for Tactics: Securing the Victory in Every Young Man's Battle by Fred Stoeker & Mike Yorkey...
Overview Exploring the struggle against temptation that young men face, the best-selling author of Every Young Man's Battle outlines a biblical game plan to remove every hint of sexual impurity--even while living in a sex-soaked culture. Original.
Publishers Description The ultimate showdown calls for the ultimate team. Jesus and you. God sets a pretty high standard for sexual purity for his men: "Among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality" (Ephesians 5:3). Can you reach that standard? You've tried-and often succeeded. But if you haven't quite finished the job, you still need the right game day tactics to defeat temptation-and be God's champion. "Tactics "picks up where "Every Young Man's Battle" leaves off. It explains why sexual sin is so addictive and why guys battling in the trenches to stay pure still struggle. Most of all, it unveils the spiritual front of this epic match-up and how an intimate connection to the Father is the edge needed for victory. Grab hold of these practical steps to the deeper spiritual intimacy that will neutralize the sexual pollution in today's culture. And start living to the extreme with God.

Solutions for the battle Aug 22, 2009
As a 27 single male I highly recommend this book. It is a great follow up to Every Young Man's Battle and HERO both by Stoeker and both I highly recommend as well. I think all of these books are great especially HERO. Tactics goes into how much our eyes influcence our thoughts during this battle and ways to shield them to make overcoming the battle a little easier. After reading this book you will realize just how much sensuality we come into contact with and how much that gets us guys going and also desensitized we have become wanting a better "high".
Agreed, best yet! Aug 16, 2007
This book I believe is better then the other Every Man's books on sexual purity. Fred is an incredible author, and really connects with you. The physical front of the battle as taught in the previous Every Man's Battle books is summed up effectively in the first few chapters, and then the more important front of the battle, the spiritual front is focused on. This is so incredibly important I can't even begin to describe it in this review. From the perpsective of defeating sexual sin, Fred guides you with some practical steps on what you can do RIGHT NOW to get closer to God and secure the victory. By simply using the physical strategies such as bouncing the eyes as described in Every Man's Battle (and every young mans battle) it can take you years to break a deadly cycle of lustful thoughts and masturbation (as Fred explains in his constant inspiring life story to help relate to you). But by simply getting close to God and letting Him take care of you, it can take mere months. Of course, the physical side is important too, but you need to be close to our Lord in order for that physical side to be effective and lasting. This is something you need to learn sooner rather then later. God's chasing after you, so turn around and have a chat with Him; He's eager to help you become Holy.
The reason I only give this four stars though is because the chapters on the physical front of the battle are sometimes too explicit. And this is coming from someone who has seen all there is to see when it comes to explicit material. It's tough when you're trying to be pure and then Fred describes something a little too vividly. However, don't let that stop you from buying this book. The spiritual front of the battle is too important to ignore, and Fred's inspiring writing will help guide you through the tactics needed.
For a less explicit book on the physical front of the battle, check out Joshua Harris's book "Sex isn't the Problem (Lust is)". Josh stresses the importance of the spiritual side, but doesn't do it justice as Fred does. So, both books together make a great combination and are far superior (I feel) to the other books in the Every Man's series (on sexual; purity anyways). If you're really hooked on the scripture references (whcih you should be), Every Young Man's Battle Guide is a pure collection of 500 verses that'll help. So as you're going through the battle, if you ever need more assistance, get that one as well. These would be the three books I reccomend; books that have scripture and solutions. What more could you ask for?
A Great Tool for Living A Pure and Integral Life Jul 14, 2007
If your not a book reader...this could be the book for you. I say this because just after reading the first couple of sentences, you don't feel like you're reading anymore. Instead, you feel as though you are finally being understood. If there is some insight to make any sort of sense about why I feel and act the way I do, I want to know. I'm not one to enjoy having the wool pulled over my eyes so I must say I am quite a skeptical person, but when I started to read this book, I found that this book is about us (men) and it is for us and it is from us. God uses Fred to deliver a humble message of truth in the area of men's sexuality and incredible insight in why we feel what we feel, act the way we act, and how and why we are effected so greatly in the visual (our eyes) department. If you want to read a book that can set you straight in the area of men's battle with staying pure and lay a strong foundation based on knowledge and faith then don't waist anymore time. I recommend this book only to men who are serious about fully understand themselves and taking charge of their life. Like it or not, as men we are responsible for protecting and leading our families with spiritual authority. This book is such a helpful tool in our quest for being men of integrity.
Another Great Book by Fred Stoeker! May 17, 2007
I grew up with little to no guidance from my father, regarding sexual purity. I learned about sex through, my friends, my girlfriends, and on my own. I struggled with masturbation from about 15 to 24. I could not break the cycle, until I threw myself before the Lord. I was miraculously delivered a short time before I met my wife, (Good timing, huh?), but I have continued to have wandering eyes. I have read 1 or 2 of Fred's previous books and maybe half heartedly tried to bounce my eyes. I know that it has hindered my devotional time with the Lord. Since I have been reading "Tactics", I have made an effort to not look at other women, and it has been easier than I thought. Granted, old habits are hard to break. The part about being a "Peeping Tom" hit me right between the eyes. I am following Fred's example of how to praise and worship God. He has taught me more about devotional time than anybody else that I know. Thank you, Fred.
An amazing book May 8, 2007
This is truly a wonderful book. Fred Stoeker is an excellent author! This book helped me to gain a relationship with God that I had never experienced before. Since reading it, I have begun to see God not only as God but also as a loving father. It was extremely encouraging and has been highly instrumental in my walk with the Lord. Come men, come women. Anyone who wants to gain a better understanding and relationship with a loving God should read this book.
