Item description for Portrait of Jesus?: The Illustrated Story of the Shroud of Turin (Omega Books) by Frank C. Tribbe...
"Potrait of Jesus? "is a comprehensive and up-to-the-minute account of the Shroud of Turin which, according to legend, was the garment which covered Jesus in the tomb. Frank Tribbe has for many years been a member of the elite group of scientists and researchers studying the Shroud. His book takes all their findings into account to show that, contrary to claims that it is a medieval hoax, the Shroud is an authentic first-century relic from the Near East, probably Palestine. The massive evidence which Tribbe presents from decades of research makes "Portrait of Jesus? "the best resource for knowledge about the Shroud.
This edition contains updates on all findings to the present.
"This book pulls together all existing information on the Shroud...It also provides ingenious theories of how the Shroud found its way from the Jerusalem of the Apostles to the France of the 14th century... The reasonable man may find it harder than he imagines to dismiss the Shroud of Turin after reading this book." --James C. O'Neill, "National Catholic News Service"
"Comprehensive and accurate information..." --Rev. Adam J. Otterbein, C.SS.R., S.T.D., President of the Holy Shroud Guild
"An invaluable resource for us all...especially important for every thinking Christian." --Rev. Dr. Edward J. Bauman, Senior Minister of Foundry United Methodist Church, Washington, DC

Reviews - What do customers think about Portrait of Jesus?: The Illustrated Story of the Shroud of Turin (Omega Books)?
Disappointed Jan 11, 2009
Well written and interesting. However, as I read this book about the Shroud, I am continually disappointed that there are no of images of the actual shroud itself. I find myself wishing I could look at the area of the image the author is talking about. Of the 16 pages of color plates, only one contained an actual shroud image! And that only of the face (a duplicate of the front cover.) The other color plates are of the scientists and inspired artwork. There are other images of sections of the shroud in the book but only black and white low resolution. If you want views of the shroud, you won't find them here. A book about such a unique image that calls itself "illustrated" should have actual images to view!
A highly documented analysis of the history and properties of the shroud of Turin Jun 7, 2006
The significantly revised and updated second edition of Portrait Of Jesus: The Shroud Of Turin In Science And History by author and lecturer Frank C. Tribbe is a highly documented analysis of the history and properties of the shroud of Turin. Addressing all of the controversies associated with the Shroud's history and historical significance, Tribbe draws upon years of careful study and exhaustive research carefully distinguishing documented facts and personal views and speculative theories. Informed and informative, nicely illustrated and inherently entertaining, the Portrait Of Jesus is very strongly recommended reading, especially for the non-specialist general reader with an interest in what is arguably one of the most important, famous, and controversial historical relics of Christianity.
