Hijo de Pedro G mez de Quevedo, noble y secretario de una hija de Carlos V y de la reina Ana de Austria. Francisco de Quevedo estudi con los jesuitas en Madrid, y luego en las universidades de Alcal (lenguas cl sicas y modernas) y Valladolid (teolog a).Tras su regreso a Madrid tuvo la protecci n del duque de Osuna, con quien viaj a Sicilia en 1613. Osuna fue nombrado virrey de N poles y Quevedo ocup su secretar a de hacienda y particip en misiones pol ticas contra Venecia promovidas por su protector. Cuando ste cay en desgracia Quevedo sufri destierro y prisi n, pero regres a la corte tras la muerte de Felipe III. Durante a os tuvo buenas relaciones con Felipe IV, aunque no consigui ganarse la simpat a de su favorito, el conde-duque de Olivares. Se especula que dej bajo la servilleta del monarca el memorial contra Olivares titulado Cat lica, sacra, real Majestad , lo que motiv su detenci n en 1639. Se cree, en cambio, que termin en un calabozo del convento de San Marcos de Le n, donde estuvo hasta 1643, v ctima de una conspiraci n. Muri en Villanueva de los Infantes.
