Item description for Overcome by the Spirit by Francis Macnutt...
Overview In the 1960s and early 1970s, when Francis MacNutt first witnessed being "slain in the Spirit," he didn't know what to think. Then, amazingly, it started happening in his own healing ministry, where he could determine firsthand its impact on believers. One of the first things MacNutt learned, through extensive research, is that resting in the Spirit (as he prefers to call it) is not new at all: It occurred throughout Church history, including in the Protestant revivals of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and over centuries of Catholic tradition, Resting in the Spirit continues today, an extraordinary phenomenon that graces believers with healing and wholeness, Overcome by the Spirit tackles every conceivable question and concern about this issue, including: * Isn't it just the power of suggestion? * Aren't some people actually pushed over? * What are the spiritual benefits, if any? * Doesn't it lead to vanity and competition among ministers? * How good can something be that causes division and controversy? Christians seeking deeper understanding of this phenomenon will find biblically informed wisdom and sensitivity. A special section offers practical advice to those in the healing ministry.
Publishers Description Tackles questions and concerns raised about being "slain in the Spirit" with biblical wisdom, sensitivity, and practical advice.

Awesome book about resting in the spirit! Jun 14, 2002
This is such an amazing book about the phenomenon of being "slain" or "overcome" in the spirit. The stories in this are truly touching, and make me wonder why anyone would say that these manifestations are caused by Satan. They truly are from God. I see they have several copies of this book above, new and used -- get it! If you're not a believer that falling is caused by God's spirit, or believe that it serves no purpose (which I once did), this book will change you. It's the only book I know of (there may be others) that is solely dedicated to resting in the Spirit... so check it out.
WONDERFULLY BALANCED Jun 21, 2000
Francis MacNutt provides a well balanced look at, what he terms,"resting in the spirt". From a religious background that would often close someone off from such experiences Mr. MacNutt has maintained an open minded approach. Perhaps most revealing is the overwhelming evidence and testimonies of the people that have "rested". A recommended read for everyone who is curious about what they have seen...and felt.
Why do some people fall down when they are prayed for? Feb 2, 1998
This is an excellent book for people puzzled by the phenomenon of people being "slain" in the Spirit (though MacNutt does not like that particular terminology and offers alternatives). MacNutt shares biblical insights, anecdotal experience, and practical tips gleaned from years of ministry.
