Reviews - What do customers think about Theology for Beginners?
Every Catholic needs to read this book. Mar 21, 2007
I wish every catholic would read this book. I think that not only would they understand their faith better, they would be able to explain it better AND be more motivated to live it. Simple, simple, simple little short read with HUGE substance. Nothing has helped me grasp the trinity, heaven, grace, original sin, etc. like this book. It is my favorite of all favorite books--EVER!
Makes theology accessible for the normal person Jan 29, 2007
This book is a very engaging explanation of Catholic theology. It never slips into academia, but is consistently written with the common man in mind. The author's excitement about theology comes through loud and clear, and takes you with him. And the explanations give you that "Aha!" moment of clarification that is so often lacking to Catholics. I would strongly recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn more about the Catholic faith.
A must for all Catholics Nov 2, 2006
Theology for Beginners is a book that should be in every catholic home. For those seeking a deeper understanding of their faith -- this book does not disappoint.
This is a study book and must be slowly read. I am so blessed that I found this book and I am throughly enjoying the deeper understanding of my catholic faith.
Christian from CT Oct 19, 2006
This book is one of the best introductions to theology I have read. Most of us read the bible all the time and never really understand fundamental concepts such as the difference between soul and spirit, nature and person, etc. I have had dialogue with many evangelicals and main-stream christians about certain concepts for which they have problems. However, these concepts can be explained once they have read this book. This is one of the few books that explains the Trinity in a way that utterly makes sense. Sheed writes clearly, but does have a slightly condesending tone. But this only because he asssumes the reader to be a novice. Unlike many books on theology, he does not spend time with literarry forms and other intellectual and formal spects of theology. Instead Sheed concentrates on logical explainations of the central beliefs of all christians. This is an excellent book for ALL christian to read. Sheed makes it clear that this is not a substitute for faithful reading of the bible, but insists it can enhance you understanding of scripture. His faith shines through on each page. Other excellent books are: 1. Theology and Sanity by Frank Sheed, an expanded version of this book. 2. Handbook of Christain Apologetics by Peter Kreeft.
The title is accurate! Mar 21, 2006
This book presents the foundations of Catholic belief clearly, concisely and in a very easy to read and understand fashion. An amazing accomplishment!
