Reviews - What do customers think about Low-Carb Italian Cooking: with The Love Chef?
 | Carbs ain't the real concern here Nov 13, 2004 |
| He calls himself "The Love Chef," but this guy's recipes are a real heartbreaker -- or, should I say, a heart-attack waiting to happen. Sure, they're low in carbs, but with many dishes containing more than 50 grams of fat per serving -- some even as high as 90 grams -- that's not amore. Proceed at your own risk, and remember, fettuccine Alfredo is the single worst dish you can have in terms of cholesterol and fat; thanks, Chef Anthony, but I'd rather have a plate full of carb-filled pasta and marinara sauce than the artery-clogging stuff you're selling us. | | | | Low Carb Italian??? Sep 28, 2004 |
The title of this book screamed at me to pick it up. Low carb Italian? What the heck would be in it? Soy pasta? Cauliflower "risotto"? What other horrors were waiting between the covers?
Francis Anthony, AKA The Love Chef, is a frequent guest on "Live with Regis and Kelly" (formerly known as "Live with Regis and Kathie Lee", formerly known as "Live with Regis and a bunch of guest hosts while looking for Kelly"). According to the first chapter, TLC (The Love Chef) was a guest on a show along with Dr. Atkins. Atkins told him if he took out the pasta, his recipes would be low carb compatible. TLC admits he isn't a strick Atkins follower, but he does adhere to a low carb life-style.
The recipes range from appetizers to seafood to vegetables to dessert. The nutritional information (cals, fats, protein, carbs, fiber and net carbs) are included with the recipes. Most of the recipes are below 12 net carbs per serving.
The ingredients seem pretty common so there won't be too much difficulty finding them in a typical grocery store. There's not alot of low carb replacement food here, such as soy protein isolate. So don't be surprized when TLC calls for cornstarch or flour. (You can easily replace them with lower carb ingredients if you want.) And there's no low carb pasta recipes either. | | | Write your own review about Low-Carb Italian Cooking: with The Love Chef
