Publishers Description St. Philomena is perhaps the most extraordinary Saint in the history of the Catholic Church. When the relics of this 13-year-old Virgin Martyr were discovered in the Roman Catacombs in 1802, she became almost overnight one of the most popular saints in the Church, earning the nickname of "The Wonder-Worker" because of the countless remarkable favors that she sent to those who prayed to her. For a century and a half there was a worldwide Catholic devotion to St. Philomena, approved by many Popes. But amazingly, since the 1960's, she has been almost forgotten. This little book by the beloved Fr. Paul O'Sullivan-author of All About the Angels, The Secret of Confession, How to be Happy, etc.-gives the fascinating story of St. Philomena. Fr. O'Sullivan tells of her martyrdom, her miracles, her relics, her partnership with the Cur of Ars, and the great miracle involving Pauline Jaricot, as well as recounting many other true stories of the "dear Little Saint's" generous answers to those who invoke her. God obviously wishes to give out His gifts and favors through the hands of St. Philomena, and it is His will that we ask her for them. These pages will give new hope to all who need a special friend in Heaven to answer their prayers. May this little book help to open up the floodgates of heavenly gifts so that once again this sweet young Saint will become known by that beautiful title: Saint Philomena-The Wonder-Worker

A good book to introduce yourself to this amazing saint Sep 17, 2003
This is a great book. St Philomena seems to be a saint who is particularly close to God, and you'll understand why once you read about the circumstances of her death and the the incredible success which people have had when asking for this saint's intercession. I'm glad to see that devotion to this saint has been increasing in recent years, after having slacked off somewhat just after Vatican II.
From a Conservative Catholic devoted to St. Philomena Jul 8, 2003
The book is excellent. The other two reviewers were correct in many ways. St. Philomena is terrific and this book is just great in getting out the facts. She is so powerful because she is in heaven interceding on behalf of those who ask for her intercessionary prayers. This book shows how to receive favors from God through her intercession. I strongly recommend this book and the adoption of St. Philomena as a patron (or patroness) saint. I also recommend obtaining her chaplet (see page 96) in this book. Good Reading and God's Blessings!

An Old Gem Back In Print Jun 19, 1999
Father O'Sullivan's book on Saint Philomena is a comprehensive look at the history of the devotion to this mysterious martyr from the Catacomb of Saint Priscilla. Dropped from the liturgical calendars in 1961 due to lack of authentic biographical information about her life, Saint Philomena has been nearly forgotten by Catholics of the Post-Vatican 2 era. This is a shame, for contrary to the flood of MIS-information currently published about her, Philomena was NOT de-canonized or declared not to have existed. O'Sullivan's book sheds much needed light on the controversy surrounding the finding of her remains in 1802 in the catacombs.
This child was found with her skull very badly fractured, with evidence of lance-wounds. This, regardless of any controversy about the disarrangement of her tomb-tiles, proves that this Christian child died a horribly violent death. The badly fractured head, coupled with the vial of martyrs' blood placed inside the tomb next to her head, PROVES her martyrdom for all who care to see the truth. Her Sainthood is proven by the numerous and well-documented miracles which have continued to occur since 1805, when people first began to ask this mysterious Child Saint to pray for them.
I am delighted that Father O'Sullivan's book is again available, and I encourage all who want an ACCURATE assessment of the story of Saint Philomena, to get and read THIS book, and not the more modern and erroneous books and articles about her.
