Reviews - What do customers think about Divine Intimacy, Vol. 1?
Amazingly helpful to the spiritual life Nov 30, 2006
This 4 volume revision follows our church year, often bringing in the readings we get at Mass. I have used it for the past year, and am looking forward to going through another year with Father Gabriel--and another and another. I don't think it is possible to exhaust the treasures in these meditations. These books are for those of us who aren't beginners in knowledge of the Faith, and who are beginning to get an idea of how far we fall short of living that Faith. Father Gabriel doesn't pussyfoot around and challenges the reader many times on every page, yet somehow also encourages him and inspires him. These books have contributed to a watershed year in my life as a Catholic Christian, and I cannot recommend them as highly as they deserve. It may well be that the original is better as far as a classic work, but I am a daily Mass goer who appreciates the constant tie-in to the Scriptures I am hearing at Mass.

"Updating" Divine Intimacy is like updating Dickens or Hawthorne. The original was in no need of revision and is worth five stars. This version feels like a heavy hand has been through it, and it is comparatively hollow.
It is still better than a lot of works out there, but why get the knock-off when you can get the original? The one in the black cover published by TAN Books is the real Divine Intimacy.
