Overview These five-minute readings provide busy Christian women with brief but deep reminders of the good news of Jesus Christ to demonstrate how his truths powerfully connect to their everyday lives.
Daily comforts from the gospel of Christ provide busy Christian women with brief but deep reminders of how his truths powerfully connect to their daily lives.
Nothing comforts a woman's soul more than a fully understood and embraced gospel. But many women aren't finding solace in their relationship with Christ because they don't see how his life, death, and resurrection connect with soccer practices and swim lessons. Besides, they just don't have time to sit down and read a theology book, no matter how much they might hunger for God's truths.
That's where Elyse Fitzpatrick's latest book comes in. Comforts from the Cross provides those well-intentioned women with bite-sized readings to remind them of their place in Christ and of his love and ministry in their busy lives. It also dusts off the facts of the gospel to show how ancient truths such as justification, sanctification, and redemption can free and enliven their souls every day. Even more, these five-minute celebrations of the gospel relieve readers of legalistic condemnation and empower them for joyful obedience by engendering fresh love for the Savior.
A perfect choice for gift-giving or personal encouragement, Fitzpatrick's book helps active women grasp the practicality of the gospel message and experience its deep comforts.

Purposefully written to keep the gospel present in your mind Oct 22, 2009
Fitzpatrick has written a month's worth of devotional material to help keep you focused on the most important matter in one's life: the saving truth of Christ's life, death, and resurrection that is the gospel. In a style that I would describe as motherly, she sets out to show the centrality of the gospel and the joy found therein.
Brad Bigney, from his blurb on the back of the book, says, "The church today, particularly in America, has been languishing in selfish, impotent, shallow immaturity--barely able to survive, let alone thrive and make an impact on our culture." Need I say more? This month long set of devotions will quicken your heart to love Christ for what He has done for you on the cross. In addition, you will be challenged--through your own joy in the gospel--to share it with others. If you struggle to find joy in the gospel, allow Elyse Fitzpatrick to help you. If you do not struggle, chances are you know someone who does; this book would make a perfect gift.
An excellent daily devotional to remind us of the Gospel Oct 21, 2009
Christ commands believers to share the Gospel message to a dying world. The irony is that the Gospel is equally necessary for a Christian's daily walk in sanctification. We often fall into the trap of either beating ourselves up for falling short of God's holiness, or becoming self-righteous when we believe that our works and obedience earn us brownie points with God.
Elyse's book is a must-read to help us from living in one of those extremes. Each devotional, beginning with a Scripture verse, is only 3 pages or so, but packed with excellent theology, examples, and biblical support. Her passion for the Gospel is a bright light amid an evangelical scene rife with Emergent tendencies, a seeker-sensitive mentality, and watered-down Gospel messages. Though this book may be targeted for women, any Christian will benefit from it.
Comforts from the Cross, the only real comfort! Jul 2, 2009
As much as my greatest desire is to be my own god and save myself, Elyse skillfully directs me back to the only real Savior and comfort, the Lord Jesus Christ. Our only real hope every morning is His passionate expression of love to me emanating from Calvary. Her wonderful insights reminded me morning after morning that I am really not who I think I am. I am really nothing but what I am in Him. It is cathartic to embrace that truth and rest in His work. My surprise was that I seemed to emerge from the "cave of forgetfulness" every morning and needed to be jolted into reality once again by the wonderful truth contained in the pages of Comforts from the Cross. Bravo Elyse Fitzpatrick
Great for an Overwhelmed Mom Jun 23, 2009
My husband bought me Comforts from the Cross because he wanted me to remember who I am in Christ and to "preach myself the Gospel" every day. I have been encouraged, convicted, and challenged reading through this book each day.
It was especially timely after participating in a Bible study on Galatians this spring. I am continuing to learn what it looks like to live as a child of God and not a slave to the law.
The devotionals are about 3 pages per day, one for each day that take about 15 minutes to read. It has really helped me as a busy mom of 2 toddlers to have a regular time with Jesus every day. I recommend it especially for the women out there who feel like they have no time to sit with God.
An excellent inspiration for any Christian Jun 10, 2009
You don't need to dedicate your life to your religion to embrace it; just a little each day can make a world of difference. "Comforts From the Cross: Celebrating the Gospel One Day at a Time" is a simple inspirational guide for Christians. Designed to be read over the course of a month, each entry contains simple wisdom drawing from scripture to help readers relish the days ahead of them. "Comforts from the Cross" has a minor focus on women, but is an excellent inspiration for any Christian.
